You'll need new bottom arms.

VW only, about £80 each iirc.

I paid £82.66 each (incl. vat) at my local dealer for g40 arms on Tuesday.

Does anyone know, are the arms L & R specific? Because matey got me 2 x 871407151A and I'm now wondering if they are different either side (inner rose-joint that is). :?

Same both sides! :D

etka says there the same each side, so only one part number

Gladerseite do some aftermarket G40 ones to.

I only paid £68 a side from VW for mine?

As if we ever get anything cheaper, ever!

I might have just got good discount that day, or they were a bit cheaper a year ago?

Or working from a up to date/out of date ETKA price database.

Think my explanation is more likely though Steve?:shock:

Is the G40 arm itself actually different to the Polo normal one?

Or is it just that the G40 arm has different rubber mounts in it?

The G40 arm has an inner rose-joint rather than a rubber bush.

what do these inner rose joints actually do? r they stronger / stiffer obviously? in what characteristics would they affect handling?

Go look some information on rose joints on google and that'll explain all...

Good serviceable rose joints will take up the slack you naturally get with rubber bushes meaning the steering is more direct and you have more feel, in theory.

But, a good set of polybushes (G-laderseite or similar, not cheap shit) will do the same thing.

Tis my understanding of it, correct me if I'm wrong ladies.

Hi Tim!

Hows it going man? not seen you on here for a while!

A Rose bush is a metal spherical bearing where as normal polo arms just have a rubber bush, which is just a piece of soft rubber with a hole through it.
