i am on my mums policy as a named driver. she called them up for me saying she wanted to lower the car with a 18 yr old on the same policy

''yes madam that will be a extra grand''

iv tryed getting quotes for my own polocy with likes of quinn they wanted 2500... FUCK that , my cars worth 900.

What insurance company is that with?

I'm with quinn direct and when i had my little sj jeep, they just wanted to know if it had any mods that increase the bhp of the vehicle. Not the looks (bull-bars etc). So you could try Quinn direct?

Martin.

What a ridiculous peice of advice.

"Don't claim mods."

What is that supposed to mean?

Don't declare them?

So what happens in the event of a claim? You're fucked, regardless of fault, the insurer can just walk away leaving you with a nice big bill.

What happens if you crash into someone and a 3rd party requried urgent facial reconstruction only available on private medical, only affordable by an insurance payout? You'd have wrecked their life aswell as broken the law and you'll get a jail sentance for a number of different charges.

Insurance is not there to cover just your car, it is there to cover every other road user and non road user that your vehicle is at risk of damaging or injuring.

A vehicles' value is only a small part of the broad view of insurance costing. Insurance is calculated upon the risks involved such as the driver, liscence held, penalties, claims, convictions, area of residence, carear, type of use, duration of use, other named drivers, vehicle performance, vehicle reputation and modifications amongst other things.

The only advice I can offer is too declare everything, for the sake of others as well as your own. If the quotes are too high because of modifications, then it's time to get rid of them, being able to legally drive a car is more important than not for the sake of it looking or sounding cool.

Try each insurer to get a wide range of quotes, print off the documentation as you can use that as proof of the quote and see if other insurers will beat it.

I'm with Admiral, a group 12 car, kept on a driveway, £590 fully comp, fully declared including all optional extra's with all charges included paying in monthly installments.

yea i didnt get the dont claim mods bit :S

adrian flux ;)

Adrian Flux all the way.... have always beaten renewal costs since I've been with them, have been fab with my insurance pay out, and for me mods dont add a simple penny more!!!

I just got rather hard bum raping quote of £10k for insurance on my polo...it only has bloody alloys too. But then i tried bell and added my mum and stuff and got it down to just over £1k so you just need to shop around.

10k ?! What a joke

£10,000 sounds like a good quote!

Thats what i got quoted on my R6 by sum stupid company, now i pay around £700.

how old are you ?

o and companys that dont want young drivers just hike it up to something silly . eg 10k to put you off, its a polite way of saying ''fuck off your going to crash'

adrian flux.

insured loads of cars with them,

mk1 golf gti 1600 1980model £500 tpft wen i was 19

now £700 with a 190ps G40 with smooth bay, audi interior inc dash, coilovers, alloys, big brakes with a high agreed value with no limit on mileage.

every single mod listed. fully comp! and I'm only 22

give em a try - n dont try and pull the wool over there eyes, there NOT stupid.

If the car was lowered when you got it - it could be on the insurance database as modified so if you dont list it then they will know.

honesty is the best policy, you are less likely to smash up a cherished car then a stock car. join clubs and get a cat1 alarm.
