Right, as some of you may have read, i had a swanky new Polo Gti on order from Volkswagen. Turned out i was wrong, they took my deposit (i put down 2k) and said the ca had been ordered chased them up after 2 weeks of not hearing anything and the car hadnt been ordered as my finance had been declined (although it had been pre approved apparently) so i got my deposit back, swapped a few choice words with Mr Salesman and off i went.

Ended up buying a Helios Blue Mk2 Golf Gti 16v :-D

Picked it up this morning from Ipswich, got T&T and its very good for what i paid

Basically, its got a bit of Rust on the tail gate, bit on the roof and generally a little bit tatty, but nothing major needs doing really!

Future Plans are..

Cam belt etc next weekend

Big bumpers (maybe) and G60 arches

Get rid of the rust asap

Coilies

Ditch the balloon tyres (rubs as it is lol)

Maybe get different wheels

Bit of smoothing (frenched tailgate etc)

Single lamp 7 slat grill

And just the normal bits really, just going to enjoy it for a while to be honest, its great fun to drive!

Took it into work today and realized the paint is actually shit lol so going to have a temporary measure take place in the next few weeks, but don't worry, its not matt black

Toying with the ideas of small bumpers, but if i do i want a CL splitter, loose the arch trims and get a new rear valance.

Bidding on some nice wheels at the moment to, and going to be ordering my coilies Pay day :-D

Never been a fan of the 16v small bumper splitter, so yeah CL splitter would be cool. Is the rear valance replaceable without welding? I haven't actually looked that hard. My front one is ROTTEN though

Also, just seeing in your first post. Frenched tailgate... Tempted to have this done to mine, my tailgate needs resprayed anyway. Not sure it would work on a Mk2 with all the plastic bits though? Would need to be proper clean to pull it off, no arch trims, no sill trims, no rub strips? Maybe.

Hurray for mk2 Golfs! Mine use to handle well before the rear axle bushes went soft and 2 of my shocks lost their pressure! Oh well! just going to have to force myself to buy some phil J coilovers!

If i Do the smoothing id like to (including the frenched tail gate) i will have no arch trims etc, just probably a cl splitter and rear quarter spats.

Tbh a cheapy but different paint job will probably happen because alot of the smoothing will be done asap, and I'm buying a new boot lid anyway, and to b i doubt I'm going to find a decent helious blue one...

Rear Valance isnt doable without welding i dont think, but a friend of mine works in a body shop so ill just get him to weld that in whilst hes welding up any rust and doing badges tailgate etc...

As for wheels, I'm thinking of running 14's so i can go nice and low but haven't set anything in stone as i still need to check whether 14's are going to clear the brakes, want something different though.. fed up of all the samey stuff going on.

I know it's none-vag, but Escorts handle well, RS2000 4x4's handle very well.

If we're talking about the Audi based 2.0 924, straight line can be a problem, a mk2 GTI would probably be level pegging, the same's not true for the 2.5 in the 924S and 944 though, they're a pure Porsche engine.
