Think someone else touched on it but I think its because we associate lowered ride hieghts with sport's cars or sports models. Tends to be the lower you go the more stiffer and 'sportier' the ride gets. Mabee? lol

I went to get my MOT the other day. My mate had been into the garage a few weeks before and got his decked mk2 Golf tested then I went with my Lupo.

Tester just went "Here, are you and your mate scared of heights or something?!"

Well I gotta agree, lowered cars do look a lot better. However, I don't like it when they are "slammed" or become totally impractical for road use.

I do think its because we follow trends and the fashions. I'm old enough to remember when cars were thought to be the real business when they were jacked up at the back and had 8X15" diameter wheels with whopping great high profile tyres on (275/70/15 BF Goodrich IIRC!!). Everyone thought it was THE thing to do if you could afford it in the late 70's early 80's.

Times have changed, and now it seems the low slung look with wide low profile tyres is the way to go.

When i was a kid,i liked bunjee suspension. I liked the way a car leaned right over like a tripod in corners. But then i started driving,and getting into engineering. Now i like the look of a slammed car,even though its a pain in the arse,practically. So what's the attraction? Possibly a few things. Centre of gravity is definately one. But i blame cats.

When a cat is frightened,it goes into paw-x-paw mode. Body up in the air,straight legs,not very dignified. But when its prowling,like its seen a mouse and wants to bite its head off,it crouches right down in a menacing stance. Oh,and they cant get under a slammed car.

maybe not, but i know for a fact a slammed car can get over a cat, crouching or not :-D

It's all about stance. I dislike all the mk3s around that are sat on their arses.

Mine's standard ride height at the front and -60 at the back at the moment.... anti-stance for the MOT passing Lossss!

The cars just look a lot better with a bit of a drop (well, most of them do). There is such a thing as too low though, no doubt about it

Adam is right though, stance is key. Dump a car on its arse, tyres hidden in the arches, and it will probably look a bit wrong. Or like one of those old Citreons. Get it right and suddenly you have good stance!

With the nose down it looks more mean and aggresive, when it's high it just looks soft and just shit, less sporty from the front? I don't know, but for me it's the mean look from when the front is on the floor.

Yeah,stance is everything,no matter what the ride-height. Most dubs are too low at the back. I'm down 40R/50F now and i think its spot on,though i would say that. But there's a white loon on Golf steelies in the gallery sat higher,yet still has a neat stance.

It's pretty simple really...cars look at their best when they are sitting at a height that lends its self to the proportions of the car. A car can be too high, but in the same respect it can be too low. You have to work with car and get the height/arch gap/wheels proportionally correct.

Takes a good eye to get it right...just like it takes a good eye to get the styling of a car right. Obviously some people fail miserably and others have a naturally great eye. Same rules apply to anything really...house interiors/room layouts...paintings etc. etc. Personal preference plays a big role too...what appeals to one persons sensibilities might go totally against some one elses.

It's the little touches that can make the biggest different. Pidge's Polo looked nice on the BBS LM's but there was something just not quite right about it. Took the adjuster cups out of the rear and it helped the tyre sit perfectly in the arch, much better. The car still lacks something but difficult to pin point...first impressions were half coded wing mirrors to bring a little more colour to an otherwise vast expanse of plastic, should play off the shiny lips and other glossy parts of the car.

Most concepts have decked suspension and rubber band tyres too.

also, i love looking at the heads of the people inside bobbing along like the churchill dog cos the suspensions so stiff
