yeah dude got a few plans for it =] coilovers, 15" borbets, de-badged, colour coded door handles, orange signal lights gone and replaced with clear!, 16v bumpers and engine work or a new engine! just over a long time tho! :)

I was about to say has no one picked up he did a roundabout at 22MPH.. i wouldn't even do that on a sunny day... Especially not in the cold!!

ah but mate i didnt no it was icey because the road i went up has signs that flash if its icey and they wern't so how was i to know? look tho I've learned my lesson about what happend ok, I'm going to be really careful on wet days!

Everyone should take what I say with a pinch of salt, don't worry, we've all been there and learnt our lessons.

Thing is though, you get Bes above, saying he'd never do 22 mph on a roundabout. Which is just stupid, because that's the sort of person that holds everyone up

Also, if the temperature is down low, you can expect ice and shouldn't really have to rely on a sign to tell you. Sometimes you'll see ice, sometimes you won't.

As for losing control on a roundabout, done it myself in the dry with oil on it and I was doing a fair bit more than 22 mph :(

Power steering actually serves no purpose at all on small cars.

Yes power steering does sap power but I would take a car with power steering over a lower spec version of itself without.

And I agree your "L" spec model probably will feel faster because of it.

I have no power steering in my car either, its not bad at all in the 6n.

Deceleration of any kind can induce a skid. Selecting a lower gear and raising the clutch up will increase the effect of engine braking, doing this which can be enough to lock the wheels.

Grip in bad conditions is all to do with managing the change in speed, be it accelerating or decelerating. The key is always to slow down and speed up smoothly and progressively. Only way to get the wheels turning again is to de-clutch (press the clutch in) thus removing drive. As soon as you let off or press the throttle you are attempting the change the speed of the car...with the clutch in there are no driving forces acting on the wheels and this removes one possible source of the skid.

Ideal way of educating yourself is to get on a skid pan course so you can actually get a feel for what the car will do when it loose traction and how your inputs can rectify or exacerbate the situation. The only way to learn is by doing. I did a skid pan course after passing my test, I've also had a wee play in some deserted open spaces to see how the car reacts in the snow/ice. Scary moments have been few and far between but luckily any I have encountered I've managed to rectify.

Personally in a front wheel drive car if the back end steps out I keep accelerating whilst steering into the skid. This pulls the car out of slide whilst keeping the weight over the back wheels. You've got to be pretty alert to steer in your original direction again once the rear regains grip or you end up shooting off in the wrong direction. Lifting off or braking transfers more weight forward and can increase the angle of the skid...though saying that sometimes lifting off is an option...really requires experience to know the right course of action. You've got to understand what caused the skid and the best reaction to rectify it.

Best slide to date was braking from 110mph (5th Gear) down to 50mph (3rd Gear) whilst exiting one right hand bend and entering another. As I lifted off and applied the brakes the weight came off the rear wheels and the back end slowly swung out pointing the car into the bend (steering right using only the brakes = no chance of under steer). Gently loosened my arms to allow the car to counter-steer and kept light pressure on the brakes to keep the slide going. Just before hitting the apex I went back on the power and dragged the car out of the slide and through the bend at least 10-15mph faster than the previous "tidy" lap. Truly awesome experience. Kept doing this over the next few laps and it really helped keep the speed up through that bend. If I had braked any harder I'd have spun the car and if I'd accelerated too early it'd have under steered. Race tracks ftw.

emmm not to sure what u mean about the pics of the oil? or do u mean on the road surface i slid on? if so i didnt but I'm going to write to them saying that there should be a barrier at that part of the round about... if i didnt slide sideyways n hit the pole i woulda been fucked right into a 20ft dpretty steep downslope into a ditch =/

Lets create a world full of barriers, that'll solve the problem. If they put up a barrier everywhere someone had an accident then we wouldn't be able to move for them.

If it was cold enough for there to be ice on the road I doubt trying to navigate a round about at 22mph was a particularly sound concept.

signs meh! working today been to the place for 5 days now, health an safety guy comes an because we were working in door way he kicked up a fuss about no signs, so we get them, 10 minutes after he goes someone stubles over the sign that said caution so do i need a sign warning others of this sign now?
