Basically I've wanted a set of narrow low profile 13s, most people I've asked have straight away suggested either 165/55 or 175/50 which is okay if you have reasonable sized arches. But if you don't, your screwed.

Initially I tried a 155/65 and there was no joy. They fitted nicely, gave a small stretch but it was completely out weighed by huge tyre profile. I was hoping these would look good because they are so cheap to buy, especially as part worns. Common size.

After that I set about finding something narrower and lower profile. I asked Andy Dubstyle if he could get 145/60/13s as well as a few other people I know who can get tires. The general consensus was that they can be found but range from the cheapest £48 (Mr Dubstyle) £54 (local tyre place). There were only 2 brands, Hanhook (shitty beyond belief) and Michelin. So I sorted myself out with a Michelin to trial fit on the wheel to see how it would fit.

Got the tyre on and it looks spot on. Gives a nice stretch but nothing to obscene, they just look really really tidy. Now, Andy was doing them at £192 per set delivered. I maybe able to get the same tyre for around £170 per set delivered. Depending on numbers I may even be able to get the prices down even more.

I should be able to get 165/50/15 Bridgestones cheaper than mytyres.co.uk as well. I can get a lot of tyres cause my mate has good contacts. So if theres any particular sizes that people are interested in I can sort them out. Unfortunately for the amount of work involved in sorting it all out I can't really do 1 obscure tyre size for everyone. It would have to be a group of people interested in buying one particular size and brand of tyre. Although you do not need to buy four. Pairs are okay and as long as the numbers are good even singles would be okay.

I used 165/50 Bridgestones as an example cause they are a popular size and brand as it is.

Anyway, heres the 145/60 on a 7" rim

The thing is in theory it should all be uniform sizes but different manufactures have different ideas of profile sizes. My 195/45s were tiny compared to some 195/45s my mate had. Hence why I was going out and buying actual tyres to see what they were like.

No one does a 155/55/13 or else I would have it on my wheels right now! Although I am going to get him to search for them. Another lad called Matt is searching for them to.

are 165 50 15s classed as a scary / unsafe stretch to have or can you rag it with them?

On what size rim? I've driven with 165/50 Potenzas on 6" wide rims, and they seem VERY good bearing in mind they are quite narrow. I'm also reliably informed you can do all sorts of crazy driving shit with them on 7" wide rims and they haven't popped off.

165/50s on a 7, never had a problem with them once. We have private land where I did a series of rigorous tests with the said wheel/tyre combo and never had anything bad happen. Taken it down plenty shitty roads with pot holes and nothing happened. From personal experience I would say its not dangerous at all. So many people bleat on about how dangerous it is but have never run stretched tyres so aren't really in any position to comment really. Initially I was weary myself but after running them (like a pussy) and then testing the limits of them I realised quite quickly that they aren't as dangerous as people make out. But thats just my personal experience.

this isn't going to be like an instant thing. I need to know how many people are interested and what not. I can't really afford to go buy 100 tyres then find people who want them. I just want to get what I need and get it sent to people. Parents won't be best pleased if the living room is just full of tyres.

Don't forget, if your wanting to stick with standard 13x4.5" mk1/2/3/4 steelies its as good low profile tyre your going to get for it as far as I know.

To get those 145/60s to fit on a 7J wasn't even a job. They were on in under a minute. Didn't even need a bead cheater. Just popped on with the normal airline. Surely if they were that extremely stretched you'd need something a bit more than a minute with an airline!

My concerns were in regard to the physical amount of tread in contact with the road, not the stretch. Just to let people know

If you have the ability to run wider tyres then that can only be a good thing.

If someone steps out in front of me in the wet atleast i know that I've ensured that I've got the best possible chances of avoiding them buy having some substantial tyres on the front which would for sure grip better when i needed them to the most

If you dont believe my bullshit above, from my personal experience, coming from my good quality 145 standard mk2 polo tyres and going onto even my 165 part worns, the difference in the way the car was able to stop, accelerate and handle was 1000times better than before. I for one would never sacrifice so much tyre width just to look cool

But 145 is the standard tyre size for the car I'm going to be putting them on. Its just wider wheels and the stock sized tyres.

I had 185/55 Hancooks on my Lupo and they were shocking tyres, skidded all over the place and I replaced them with 165/50 Bridgestones and they were so much more grippy. I feel safer on the 165/50s because they are a better quality tyre, they maybe narrower but they don't just lose grip because they forget there a tyre.

If you are not interested in buying cheap tyres from me then please stop replying. This is an age old debate and never get anyone anywhere. I feel safe with what I am doing. I don't force people into running stretched tyres who don't want to. I don't force people into running narrower tyres that they need. I'm simply telling what I've experienced.
