Insurance Question Regarding My Polo

Featured Replies

Hi I'm trying to insure my car as cheaply as possible and I've been looking into getting my dad to insure himself on my polo and adding me a named driver.

Now he has quite a few years no claims bonus and hes 50, but what hes saying is that it doesn't count when he goes and trys to insure my car as hes allready got a policy on his zafira

So when i go to do quotes online i put down that he doesn't have any no claims bonus, this means the insurance quotes are coming out at crazy costs

This seems weird and wrong to me, can i use his no claims on when he goes to try and insures my car as the main driver or is this not allowed?

Hopefully I've explained this right, any questions welcomed

You can only use your NCB on one car at a time. The best thing to do is phone them up explain that this is a 2nd car and some 'might' replicate the NCB on the car or give a slight discount due to the circumstances. But I would try and get insured under your own name as it will work out better in the long run.. You might be better off putting this in the Paperwork section ;)

Your dad's NBC will be on the zafira so he can't insure your car with his NBC. I think it is better to insure the car yourself as some companies don't allow you to get a NBC as a named driver rather than policyholder.

Yea, i didnt mind about not getting this years NCB as i already have 2 years worth, was just trying to find the cheapest quote possible

Cheers for the replys

Multicar...

Yeah, you can only use you NCB in one place at once.

Hence me having 4 years NCB, 3 years NCB and 2 years NCB (I think).

surely this should be in the correct section? it is there for a reason....

try bell.co.uk, i'm 19 on a modified car, i am the policy holder and parents are names drivers, me on my own way 1000+, add the parents as named drivers it went down to 690. obscure i know but it saved me a packet.

Haggle to get the NCB over, my dad has 5 NCB on his Lotus & he haggled with the insurance to get 3 years on my Polo.

one policy 1 NCB....

we have this problem in my gf's family...

all you can do is haggle with insurance, some will do it...

have a look at www.gocompare.com and see what sort of quotes you get, that site has never let me down yet

I generally get a nice price by doing the comparison sites, plus direct line. Then nipping to a local broker, and ringing round the best quotes for a damn good haggle.
