Provisional to Full insurance

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm going to go with Quinn Direct insurance for my provisional because it works out the cheapest at £854 on a 1.4CL 1997 Polo, however, when created a false account with a full license they wanted £2.5k! I have a couple of questions.

1) If I go with quinn, i'm only going to have the policy for 4-5 months on the provisional (estimate to pass), they want £854 for an annual, but I only want 6 months or so. Is it possible to pay for the year, drop the policy when you pass and then go to another company (such as Direct line)?

2) If it is possible to do the above, is there any cash back from doing only 6 months and paying for 12?

3) What kind of premium will I be expecting for a 1.4CL 1997 Polo when I have full licence, another driver with 20+ years driving experience with full no claims?

Cheers,

Daz

this might sound preety stupid or not but you could just insure it with quinns on a provisonal for a year n then tell them when it comes for renewaal i was told something like that to day!

You become more of a liability when you pass as you can be alone in the car without guidance...thats a very good price though..cheaper than when i first started on a prov. anyway. And i found adding both parents who both have over 15years experience increased my premium lol.

oh and if your planning to go with direct line they wont take too kindly to modding your car

Only really lowering and BBS RXii's next year after a year of driving. Shouldn't be too bad I hope.

try www.comparemore.co.uk i was recomended it by adrian flux best one for me so far

Depends on the insurance company, but aslong as you don't make a claim you should get a refund for however many months are left minus a cancel fee.

If you make a claim though, you won't get any back.

direct line dont do mods for under 25s

try confused.com

all this insurance is a pain in the ring.

how important is it to get a company who are well known? i've got a few cheap quotes from names i've never heard of so am dubious about going with them. I want to get all the paper work and i don't want to ring india when i have issues.

I'm in the same situation as the original poster, and have been told that if i switch companies, because my details will be on an insurance database, the company who i am switching to may up the premium because i'm switching. . .

Just an update here,

I'm now going with Direct line. £1047.90 Fully comp on my 6N 1.4CL. The reason why it's that low is:

I'm named driver

Father is policy holder

Mother is insured with DL (10% discount)

Ordering online (10%)

We have home insurance with them (even more off)

The price doesn't even change when I pass so it's great i'll just have to ring them to let them know.

But they don't like mods . . . ?

Nope they don't, looks like I wont be lowering and alloys until I get decent prices elsewhere.
