If u were to buy a car that had been purchased on h.p, would u take over the responsibilty of the finance payments? i reckon u would....or if the person didnt pay off the remainder the car could be repossessed....but I'm not entirely sure, what u guys think?

it depends really..if u can get the intrest on the repayments low enough....not such a bad idea! a lof of motorbike dealers do 0% on payments...but any whos, some one was trying to sell me a car, but it has finacce on it....I'm not really intrested but when that point was raised the guy claimed that there was no way i would be left with any of his payments...he would say that though init?? lol I'm sure i remeber reading somehwere to stay away from these kinda deals....but wondering if anyone knew for definent....

If you buy a car from a person who has money owing on it (HP) it is the that person responsibility to pay the finance off. e.g. Someone is selling there car for £4000 but they owe £1000 on it. The buyer come along and gives them £4000 the seller should then pay off the £1000 owed on the car. so effectively getting £3000 for the car. If the seller doesn't the HP company have a claim on the car as they normally hold the car as security for the money owed. So if the seller doesn't pay the HP company back then it is sort of theft and they will come after the car. Even though you paid £4k for it.

Personally I would not buy a car that has money owing against it.
