Pulled up at a newsagents and got back in the car and started to text someone before I set off again. Guy in a yellow punto sporting, ridiculous spoiler, number plate V966 GRB smacked my wing mirror, then instead of turning away from my car, carried on and scraped the front wing and (I think) dented the bodywork (difficult to tell in darkness).

I asked some other people around who said they see his car there every day as he works as a waiter there, and that he will be there tomorrow afternoon. What do I do? Do I confront him, report it, or just leave it? To be honest its not a massive hit, but I have just paid a lot of money for a near full respray so any little scratch annoys the hell out of me, and its more the principle of it than anything else. He knew he hit me, and as I got out the car shouting he just sped off.

Also, I know its a long shot, but any of you around Southgate/ Winchmore Hill (Maxim, Giorgio etc.) know of this car or the owner? He works on the parade of shops as you go away from Southgate towards the North Circular, just off the roundabout. I think the road is Bourne Hill by the Woodman?

I'd have a word with him and see if he's willing to sort it amicably first.

Arent you supposed to report an accident within 24/48/72 (Something like that!) hours anyway? So report it and try to settle things nicley. Having said that, the fella sped off in the first place, if he was up for a chat I'm sure he'd have hung around after ruining your car.

People do stupid things when they panic, but some people just wont face up to the consequences of their actions.

Report it to the police, he drove off so he's obviously not going to want to pay out!

If he sped off I doubt confronting him would have any positive effect other then confronted by arguining. I say you should take it straight to the police as a hit and run case. You'd get the same safe result. I've got a very similar situation I posted up on UK-P. Bugged the fook out of me but meditating has calmed me down lol

go to the plod mate, its a hit and run and you have his plate, (and witnesses?) then go to the doctor with a sore neck and screw as much as you can from it.

Take photos of the damage, hopefully there are traces of his paint on your car, and if you can find it, take pictures of his car too.

i was going to say the same thing!!!

take a pic of the damage on your car with the beight yellow paint, and then if you do decide to confront him, before you do so take a picture of the damage of his car with the paint from your car on it....

the problem you'll have is its your word against his, and if you do go through insurance then he can just deny it ever happened and it'll drag on for a long time...

i know what i would do if i was in this situatuion....

and just cause he drove away doesnt mean jack my mate got hit and caused life long damage but the case got dropped and there were loads of witness's

cos people bloody clame for injuires they dont have! fare play if u do have whip lash and a few of my matees have had it. If Its bad they claimed. but going to the docs and shit when u havnt got it pisses me off.

Mate if you have the reg number then i would have called the police STRAIGHT away.

He could have been drinking or on drugs at the time.

Think your wasting your time trying to talk to him.

i would confront him, whilst he is actually working, infront of the customers....

Report him to the police for not stopping; you've got witnesses. He's probably not insured but at least you get the satisfaction of him getting a few points/fine.

Depends on the circumstances mate.

My mum of all people did a hit and run on a car. She works as a carer and had a client in the car at the time. When my mum hit the car, only a light smack, she paniced and her client got a bit distressed so my mum drove away from the scene to take the client home.

My mum was reported by the owner of the car but only recieved a police caution as she had a sort of valid reason for leaving the scene.

You never know the punto driver may have a valid reason for leaving the scene......no inurance would be my guess though.

I'd get him reported though mate right away! And screw him for all he is worth, hope you went to the docs this morning with a sore neck
