Why do some people when posting pics of their cars or selling a car on eBay or autotrader always blur out their registration plate? I've never done it and dont see why people do it... know one cane get any information on you if you show it can they?

I thought it was to do with people trashing your car coz they know which it is. Then they can say, well thats broken......but I'm probly wrong

I thought it was to stop car id theft, If a criminal knew what car they were going to steal they could then look on autotrader and find a similar car for sale and then get dodgy plates made up with the reg number of the car from the autotrader pic and put these on the stolen car. So then if the police run the reg of the stolen car it will come back clean.

To stop car cloneing. London congestion charge dodgers most often. You even get car transporters with wrote off/used cars hauls, taping up the plates.

I always think its funny on the forums cause people go and make there car as unique as possible and then hide the plate. Like anyones not going to notice its the same car

Exactly, think its pretty pointless, unless its on autotrader or something simular

Heres a freaky thing for you - yesterday we went to pick up my boyfriends mum from Standsted Airport and as u go in the car park you press for a ticket - wasn't until I was looking at the time on it to see how long we'd been waiting I noticed it had the number plate of my boyfriends R5 printed on it! Spooky and also scary that they take pictures of your plate and print it on your ticket.

agree with whats been said, but i think it is because...

lets pretend i want to go rob a bank, i have a green polo that i robbed last week, i want ot stick some plates on with one that is same colour, go on google, autotrader etc, find one that looks like the one i robbed, get em made up wahooo

its best when they blur it and do such a bad job and ruin the acutal picture, i saw one where a guy had stuck cardboard on his car, what a numb nuts, and he had covered the end of it on the rear shot, and front on the front shot, so with a small amount of brian skills you could get it...

^^^^^^^^^^ maybe he did it on purpose to see if anyone clicked that they 'could' read the whole registration...

Or when they forget to blur the plate in one of the photos

i can never be arsed.....but yes its to stop people cloning your car and go flying thru speed cameras and gettin parking tickets....thought i got one 2day but it was my free airfreshner from the london transport authority lol

i think its a waste of time blurring, i knew a guy who always blurred his number plates. Last year his car got its photo's up on the net from a few carshows he attended he went nuts. I cant see the point...... lol
