Buggered threads...get one of these:

Metric thread restoring file = life saver. Good for cleaning out threads on large diameter objects like coilovers. Bit late now though.

i know what a thread file is I'm a mechanical fitter by trade use them all the time. but the actual lock rings had split so they were rendered usless. I'm on the case anyway. new suspension soon :)

Hmm to be honest mate iff i was you i would wack your old shocks back on until you can afford to buy a new set of coilies .

Next time greese them properly when building them up to .

Shame really that a decent set of shocks have gone to waste .

Supose you have learnt and wont build them up without greese again .

I'm reading this page without seeing the photo and I'm thinking 'why is it a bodge? There's nothing wrong with welding a steel spring seat onto a steel strut - manufacturers do exactly that'. So I'm expecting to see a nice thick steel ring,welded all the way around the strut. Then i saw the photo
