drivers flashing at you when driving past a speed camera

Featured Replies

yeah it was in my local paper, but if they have to sneak like that to catch speeders then its blantantly obvious its a revenue earner!!!

really gets on my tits

i don't see how they can still claim its for road safety when they are using tactics like that, i thought the whole idea behind speed cameras in the first place was that they were meant to be a visual deterrent?

also i read that in one of the places with the most speed camera's in it road deaths have risen by a 3rd

speed cam, eras are a waste of time.....

think about it, the goverment are saying that since the gatso scene came into action, the number of deaths have declined every year, but then again the standard of cars and safety features have increased and got better every year so its all swings and roundabouts....

the only way they will find out if they are doing any good is to rip them all out and see if the nukber of deaths goes up or down....

i hate speed cameras

yeah pretty sure there warning you, which is illegal?!?!

a while back i was a passenger in a car when some boy racer was bein a dick, came out to overtake us, (i had a camera on me after photoshoot) so as he got in front, flashed the camera...he shit him sen

brakes on!!...owned

Some lorry flashed me on the way back from Fareham earlier - I thought 'fair doos probably warning of speed traps' - About half a mile up the road is a Camera Van and Police beemer then another half mile another police car on the bridge. Wasn't really going much over 70 but I thought was pretty ledge of him.

how can you complain about being caught breaking the law?

you wouldnt break into someones house and complain if you were caught red handed walking out the front door with their tv would you?

well you might if you're an idiot ..

take the consequences of your actions and learn from it.

Point take, but when i got caught in prestatyn i got caught doing 39 in a 30.... i was completely lost, cars was tailgating me all the way, it was what i presumed a 40mph speed limit all the way, what i didnt realise was it went from a 40 to 30 and back to 40 hence why i got caught doing 39(i was sticking to the speed limit)

completely pissed me off for a genuine mistake

North Wales Council's are good at the 40 30 40 30 50 30 60 as its a good little revenue builder as no one has a clue what the speed should be, lots of people in bangor got done for doing 35-40, the speed van was parked in a layby in the 40 facing back into the 30 and was catching people accelerating before they passed the sign.

well i genuinely thought i was sticking to the speed limit..... doing just under 40 so not to get caught....

lets just say I'm a lot more weary when entring wales now LOL

i really don't understand what determines the speed limit of a road anymore. there is a road near me which, fair play, has housing estates leading off it (no houses actually on the main road). It's open, quite long... speed limit 30mph.

there's another road not far from it with houses and a school actually ON the road, shops as well... speed limit 40mph??

And as for speed cameras... they are blatently revenue earners... notice how there aren't actually any by schools (one of the only places people can accept the reasoning for a camera) because people slow down as they're going past them anyway, hence they wouldn't catch anyone. And as much as i hate speed bumps, they're surely way more effective of slowing us down and cheaper to put in place?

How can flashing someone to warn them about anything be against the law? I thought that using your lights was deemed as 'letting another person know you are there' and nothing more. Obviously in the real world this isn't rue, I'm just thinking back to reading the highway code days.

I know of two cameras placed near schools. (one is 100yds from it 30MPH and the other aboud 400yards 20MPH

Both in the town of Carmarthen S.Wales, both on roads with a Zero accident count.

Then a stretch of road between pembrey and llanelli has about 6 in 8 miles, and then putting none on a stretch between pembrey and carmarthen which is treated like a race track and has had a lot of accidents and about 10 deaths in the last 5 years.

Same goes were my house is, and I've been woken up few time by cars ending up in the front lawn after losing control after coming round the bend after opening up the throttle leaving a 40 (like hell they were doing this through the village).
