Hey guys I'm looking at dropping my 9n.. its only a 1.2, but want it a lot lower than it is now.

Mainly for looks, and I know coilies are the sensible choice, but cant afford those so I'll go with 50mm springs from Spax.

Has anyone done this before? I know the tyres are likely to rub on the arches when hard cornering and bumps etc, but I'm more worried about them bottoming out. Had anyone experienced any problems?

Also I read up somewhere aaages ago about some ARB mount of something that needs changing if going low?

I'll be running my 16" countours with tasty 215 tyres :p

Any advice grately appreciated :)

Depending on the offsets I really doubt youll get rubbing at all. That is unless your going to use standard shocks?

I've done this with the spax 50mm lowering springs that your gonna get and your driveshaft will make some serious love with your anti roll bar on the drivers side!! Its the most annoying knocking sound you will ever ever experience in your life, i suppose its your choice but i really don't think its worth it for the sound!! the car will look absolutely mint though!! Your choice proceed with caution!

:retard: Waffle!! The driveshaft will not knock on the anti-roll bar at 50mm, NEVER :roll: ! Mine's on 16x8.5's, and it's 50mm'ish all round on coilies and they only ever made contact when the front was down 85mm on the steels.

You may get a little bit of rubbing though!? Other than that you have nothing to worry about mate trust me.

If its a competition mines down about 65mm on 17's mate all the way down at the back and most of the way down at the front without the anti roll bar removed. The difference is with your coilies the dampers allow far less movement, the whole set up is a lot stiffer and they give you shorter drop links that pull the anti roll bar up away from the driveshaft! When you drop it on springs you have your standard dampers which bounce all over the place with lowering springs like some sort of pimp wagon and your anti roll bar just loves to start groping your driveshaft! Trust me pal and soufMK6 i've got experience in both and wouldn't talk "waffle" for the sake of it! I wouldn't tell you that you get an annoying knocking noise because i fancied writing it down! 8-)8-)

It wouldn't take much to make your own shortened drops links to be honest. Dare I say it, you could probably make your own shorter.

It does make sense that there would be contact between the ARB and the DS with the standard shocks, as they will bounce, not being uprated dampers.

Coilies make the suspension a lot harder, so the front axle doesnt move u and down as much, reducing the travel of the DS towards the ARB. Anyways, I'm going on 30mm springs for the mo till I can afford coilies.

Pidge87... is it not dangerous to take the anti roll bar off?

I know of old VW campers if u get a narrowed beam they jus rip off the ARB coz narrow ones arent available...

If you read what the post's say I clearly state I wasn't trying to say "I'm lower"! I know first hand I'm not "LOW" as some people want cars to be but it's my car and if you lived in South London you might then understand why I'm ONLY running 50mm down ATM!

Oh and the "bit's" are coming out soon :p
