got the results of the Practical Performance Car Magazine £999 Challenge

21st (out of 32)

doesn't sound that impressive, but i beat the Uno Turbo (25th) & 106 XSi (28th)................i even beat the Starlet with the V8 engine (22nd)

also according to the results my best 0-60 was 7.929...........found a couple more timing slips in my glovebox, one with a 8.347sec 0-60

Are you using the GT or ABD head?

Are you using the GT or ABD head?

not sure to be honest, i got the engine complete in a car that used to belong to Gaz on here

i'm pretty sure GT and ABD heads are the same........ABD doesn't have double valve springs fitted

we fitted double valve springs when our Matt port matched & polished the head

you're right in thinking they're the same head

and its looking good mate, similar engine spec to what i'm planning in the next few months, its not unique but they definitely shift dont they!

any other plans?

me & our Matt finally got a trackday done today (Elvington)

due to the current noise reg's (98db) i've had to fit a quieter exhaust system......got a G40 backbox off eBay & Matt made me a centre section out of parts from 3 different exhausts

good bits of the day were......

newbies is Scooby, RX7 & Integra Type R trying to keep us behind them...... & failing :D

rules are "let the faster car's past".........i think they did'nt listen properly at the drivers meeting

RX7 spun while trying to keep ahead of our Matt

bad bits.......

fuel starvation - fuel sloshes to one side of the tank and the engine starts coughing.........solved this by running with more fuel in the tank (used 27 litres today)

used a bit of oil - had to top it up twice.........ring or bores are getting worn (i'll run it til it goes bang)

worst bit.......

blown a hole in my 4 branch exhaust manifold, car sound like a truck..........it will have to come off and be welded

..............

tyres did well :o

my mate showed me the ppc site last night, and i saw your orange polo on a video from the 2007 £999 challenge, looked like a shit load of fun, but are you not supposed to avoid the cones? ;)

Nice one Paul!

Considering the competition you did really well, I must admit I think a few of the cars must have gone over the £999 budget though :-)

good going! 8-)

that kitten looks quick as fuck. i'm seriously thinking about entering it if theres one next year, doubt i could build any thing that would be very competitive but it'd be more about building the car and the taking part for me 8-)

Right then........

Late 2008 I did a trackday in this car & melted the 4 branch exhaust manifold

Desided to replace the Polo with a mk1 Golf so it would go round corners better

Pulled the 1.4 ABD/GT out & started to fit a 1.0....... got bored, bought a mk3 Golf VR6 and left the Polo unfinished in my brothers unit

End of Febuary 2009 I bought a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth...... 2wd version

Finally finished putting the Polo back to pretty much standard during July this year & sold it

Anywho........ the Cossie has skinted me :( so it's getting sold before it costs me any more £££

So, as of this coming Sunday night, I shall be the owner of this Polo again :D

....

Spec's going to be pretty much the same again

Only changes are going to be a HotTuning S/Steel manifold & some more comfy bucket seats

Paul ;)
