The "rabbit hutches" are functional. They are there to direct air to the intercoolers. The NACA-style roof intake is also there for the same reason, and the same "rabbit hutches" in the rear bumper allow the air to flow from the rear of the car.

I think the new styling has a lot to do with needing to cool the bigger engine. I'd have the petrol engine...torque isn't a replacement for revs...at least not when driving pleasure is the most important feature of a car.

Big powerful diesel engines IN MY OPINION are pointless. Diesel serves one purpose... economy. So when you start making uneconomical diesels it fails to make sense.

Good point Toby...at low MPG diesel makes little sense due to its higher cost. Best way to go fast without using lots of fuel is to buy a light car...like a Lotus Elise S/C...0-100mph in ~10seconds and 35mpg or something around there. Light weight + petrol + forced induction + smaller engine = win.

One of the main rules allowing TDI's into motor sport was that they would emit no soot/harmful fumes, watch le man, and touring cars, try and find the soot, and now all H.G.Vs entering london must have a particulate filter aswell as cabs,

Wall-flow diesel particulate filters usually remove 85% or more of the soot, and can at times (heavily loaded condition) attain soot removal efficiencies of close to 100%. A diesel-powered vehicle equipped with functioning filter will emit no visible smoke from its exhaust pipe.

It would be interesting to put it up against the petrol version. I personally prefer the styling of it to the it's petrol counterpart. Looks more mean and aggressive. Who says super cars are meant to be conventional anyway?

Well it appears they only manage efficiencies close to 100% some of the time...so there is still going to be soot?

I am sure there is still lots of nasty shit pumping out diesel exhaust pipes.
