Basically my cars at home, I'm at uni, and I'm trying to MOT and service it from my laptop lol. I know what it needs doing before i can put it in, its due in 2 weeks, and i need 2 new tyres on the front...it goes through them like nobody's business, i dont understand what i do to them...anyway. I've been looking at mytyres.com etc and i really cant afford £40 a tyre at the moment. Can anyone recommend anywhere cheaper either online or in the Preston area...i could perhaps ask someone in my family to pick them up for me then.

I'd not feel safe putting tyres that cheap on my car though haha.

You'll struggle to find part-worn tyres in that size,but it'll be worth a look. You could order some new ditch-finders from http://www.mytyres.co.uk Your tracking is likely to be out if the car is eating front tyres,the wear on the tyre should show clues as to what's going on.

I have said I've tried my tyres already lol. Mikey how do you know what size my tyres are?? I only want cheap tyres to pass its MOT, dont hav time to save up, I'm not going to be driving the car anytime soon.

Would probably be £20 a corner for remoulds, but I wouldn't do it as I've had one bad remould experience in my life.

As Mikey says though, it sounds like something's out on your car's geometry, so just throwing more and more tyres at it without looking into this is an utter waste of money.

Well wont watevers wrong show up on the MOT? I mean its not a problem i can get my mechanic to check it out when he services it, but its a bit difficult to organise repairs etc when I'm not with the car. I know there is a problem but i just need a temporary fix for now.

Well cant you borrow a pair of 4x100 wheels for the mot? You can try a scrapper but when i referred to your tyre size,i meant those in your avatar. If they're 50s you might have a chance,but you'll be seriously lucky to find 45s. If you're running smaller wheels with common tyres,you'll find used ones for ten quid easily. Try local paper,breakers and ebay. Breakers might have some legal steelies.

depends what size your tyres are a shop around where i live in blackburn does part worn tyres for £15 and they have good thread on them

if i was you, i wouldnt even bother with internet, i'd get yourself down a scrappers and just buy 4 standard rims with enough tread for MOT.... will cost you a lot less than buying brand new tyres that wont last....

or even if you could just borrow 4 standard rims off someoneon here, I'm sure someone has 4 wheels they can borrow you for an MOT??

The whole reason I'm trying to buy online is becuase I'm 70miles away from my car and i have no way of getting anywhere near a scrappy anyitme soon, I wont be seeing my car till may/june time now if I'm lucky

if your not seein the car for a few months why the urge for MOT....

obviously when you get your car you wanna be able to drive it, but i'd save up and sort it out when you next have your car...

As long as the car isn't on the road its perfectly legal not to have an MOT. Paying for insurance as well...hope your only paying TPFT if you're not actually using it. Sounds like a bit of a money pit, been there and done that. I can't stand spending money on a car I can't use so I got rid, then replaced it with one I could use.
