a bit of a new look

Featured Replies

I removed my cibie spot lights in order to repaint them and i've decided against putting them back on. Wasn't ever totally sure on the look of them, and plus they wobbled like hell at speed  They'll go on the front of my mini when its ready.

I gave my steels a bit of a refurb though. They were silver but had corroded pretty bad and the rust was coming throught the paint so i gave em a quick rub down and redid them in white. (i always wanted to try white wheels on a red car). Looks pretty good imo :D

Oh and i tried out my glass paint on the headlights. No doubt they'll now be even more useless at night, but they look pretty cool imo!

(spot the odd wheel... the matching one had a fight with a big stone in a hedge and lost :( so i got this from a scrappy. i'll pick up a matching one if i see one about)

Next on the list is some 185 50s to replace the fatty 60s i've got on there currently. Collecting them on wednesday. then i've got to get it running right. and change the gearbox.

Oh and keep an eye out for my polo in Golf+ magazine :D it'll be in there in the write up of the GMVW rolling road day at TSR yesterday. Although it was on the MOT friendly ugly as sin 13s and still had the spot lights on it :(

Wheels look pretty pimp, like the no bumper look too. Did you use spray paint on the wheels?

thanks man :D

the wheels are just rattle canned yes. A couple had pretty bad rust bubblage (its a word... look it up!) so i rubbed them back first. but then it was just a coat of high build primer, then a couple coats of 'appliance white' paint. Came out alright really for an hour of so's work. and looks a lot better than the rusty silver they were before :D

The finish looks good. I have a set of steels and i want to do the same thing. They are in pretty good nick, only a minor bits of rust so may give it a go

liek the loks of the engine dude, not sure i liek the exterior, but one thing i can say at least youve tried something differant :p

i like the wheels but it neeeeds bumpers, looks so strange at the back without one. maybe i'm a traditionalist.

the odd one is the off side rear?

cheers guys. bumpers are staying off. been like this for 6 years now  couldn't go back on anyways, if anyone knows how the rear end looks without a bumper they'd realise how much modifying was done.

Yeah O/S rear is the odd one  not too noticeable, it was the only one the scrappy had that was remotely a close match :(

some pics from this eve in town...

whoa it spits flames!

got a vid of the sound? lol

i like it with no bumpers :)

i've not got a vid of the flames. not yet anyways. I'll get one Tuesday as i'll be out in it that night.

i shat myself the first time i got my mate to do it. i was stood a little too close and up till then i'd only heard it

it seems people either like it or hate it without the bumpers :D

wicked dude!!

gotta love the red mk2 breadys... I'm not a fan of the bumperless look but am liking what u did with the back and flushing it off, and how much have u lowered it by and do u get much rubbage???

thanks :D

its on -60mm springs but with an extra coil cut, so probably -70. I dont get any rubbage, but the rear arches needed to be 'modified' slightly with an angle grinder. and the front rub the inside arch on full lock although when i get the 185 50s on it there will be plenty of room both front and rear.

Looks like it could get a lot of rubbage but i think its stripped

I like the backend but i think it need to be lower, and the front needs smoothing like the back end

good stuff really liking the wheels and its current state

it is fully bare inside, and the shocks are damping adjustable and i've got them pretty stiff but i think there is clearance even so.

I'd like to go lower but dont really want to go cutting more coils off my springs and cant afford coilovers atm really. It will be about 37mm lower when the 185 50s are fitted though :D

I like the looks of it and you can't argue with that engine! But I think it owuld look soo much better with bumpers!

thanks :D

mine rubs like a bitch at the front and its only 30mm springs! and a bit of advice for the rears, dont chop the lip off, the wings

are in 2 pieces and kept together by that lip so become real flimsy n stuff wen u chop it off.... i rolled mine but put sealer in it as

i rolled to stop the water getting in and rusting them out.....

at the front does it rub on the the wing or the inner arch? i forget to mention that my front wings have been rolled

the lip hasn't been fully ground off, the spot welds are still intact there. I'm tempted to get berg cup arches in the future and then cut the rear arch full away to get it slammed.

well i got different tyres recently coz the old ones rubbed on the lip and they were getting torn up pretty bad.. the new ones are rubbing real bad but there arnt any marks so I'm guessing its the inner arch?

bergs sound good to me, people keep telling me to lower mine more... since putting the gt in it and taking it to the mot i went under it properly and saw how bent my arms are already... plus i use it everyday so still cant decide whether to try and bring it down anymore

i reckon some slightly modded mk2 bumpers would look cool on urs.... like taking the plastic off and revealing the metal underneath!

i've actually thought about just running the crash bars, but modified slightly. Or even perhaps making some chrome bumpers similar to mk1 golf chromies. If i can get a set of mk2 bumpers locally and pretty cheap i may have a play around. but i really dont like the idea of putting holes in the smoothed rear end :(

I like it without bumpers, think it's a well kool look and if it didn't look so bad on a mk3 I'd definitely ditch mine!

changed the wheels over last night. got some 55s on there now so a better wheel/tyre ratio and better ride height.

one side effect is the lighter wheels, plus smaller rolling diameter means they are even more eager to spin up. they will now break free on every gear change, and in the wet (like today...) i can keep a constant wheelspin in 4th  front tyres wont last long methinks!
