I found chips away to be rather expensive...

If you want to know the prospects for earning then you should probably contact the company or contact some of the franchises. A guy on our local forum worked for the Post Office. His branch closed so he started his own Chips Away franchise. Has a nice new Volkswagen van to pimp about in.

yeah i know like most of the details because i went to a franchise exhibition the other day and got told all about it including a live demonstration on one of their scrap panels but was just wondering like what is it like to work for them if you know what i mean, also was considering mobile valeting but nowadays most people wash their own cars or just take it to the local car wash

yeah i have one bought it almost 2 years ago, i must warn you though if you need to borrow money to start up it's not for you as you will struggle a hell of alot and you will need around £45K to start up, the main thing is it takes time to build up a reputation and get a name for yourself but the system works everything works but you need to get the jobs to do which can be the tricky bit most people reckon about 3 years or so and it'll be steady work, all i can say is get to an open day and you can see how well it works but it has busy weeks and quite weeks so just be warned you do need to put alot of time and effort into getting it off the ground and getting the work

what are the tipical rate for chips away?

i know sombody who has now started a franchise with some window chip place and it must be going ok cos he's now quit his good job to do it full time and not just at the weekends.

if you mean chipsaway repairs it all depends on the damage but my personal rough guide prices for a single repair are

bumper scuff £100+

door/ 5 door rear quarter scratch £145+

wing £130+

3 door rear quarter £175+

alloy £45+

the second repair will be between about £30 - 70+

obviously it does depend on what the damage is, but that undercuts most main dealer prices by alot and smaller garages round hear charge about £160 for a bumper and you have to remember it's all done at your home or workplace in a few hours saving you hassle of losing your car for a couple of days ;)

Does sound good, but a lot of money for it!!!
