Red 6n Polo *updated*

Featured Replies

Hey guys, Kinda new here as i've not made many posts but bought a couple of things in the classifieds. I bought this little polo off a chap I knew at work, he wanted £1500 for it. I bought it off him for £750. It's a 1997 1.4CL in Flash Red, with 53k miles. It was, very faded red when I got it but after months of washing, polishing and general cleaning it's come up beautifully.

Engine - Standard 1.4 8v 53k

Interior- Pioneer DEH P6000UB head unit and Fusion CM65 componants.

Wheels and tyres - BBS RXII's with BF Goodrich 195/45/R15's.

Exterior - 16v Front and rear bumpers, Mark5/6N2 rear lights, Bump strips removed, colour coded handles, clear indicators and repeaters, Votex spoiler (need fitting) and black VW badges.

Suspension - Standard, it's the "Afraid of the tarmac" look.

Here are a couple of pictures of how it looked when I got it (after the first decent clean of it's life).

The day I got it (in rain)

Plans at this point were:

Lower it about 40/60 (40 rear)

BBS RXii alloys (Now owned)

Fit the Votex spoiler

Those last 2 door handles! (Done)

I then decided that black badges were required, so instead of paying for them myself, I resprayed the old ones. I also had the door handles and Votex spoiler sprayed by a professional.

A deal had been struck to buy a set of BBS Rxii's which had a polished lip and low profile tyres.

Then new speakers and head unit were needed - So I got a set of Fusion CM65 and a Pioneer DEH-P6000UB head unit.

Decided that the rear badges needed to go, so off they went and a fresh polish was completed. Also picked up a bonnet bra for long distance journeys.

Then decided to black hammerite the rear drums, easy enough to do.

*** UPDATE ***

Got myself a Golf VR6 Highline rear badge which makes it look loads better (sorry pics are of crap quality, raw sunlight!) and picked up a BMC CDA for £25 off a mate!

And the BMC, just needs a breather filter to go on then it can be fitted.

Plans:

The car is going for a full exterior respray to bring back the original Flash red paint which has been scratched, dinged and scuffed. When this is done, I will fit the Votex spoiler.

I'm having some issues with Hottuning over coilovers sadly dispite having the money on offer (which I know they accept as friends have done so on ebay for £150) so thats holding me back. Rust on door has been treated, just needs fillering off then smoothed, sprayed then done.

I'm also thinking about getting some projector headlamps and then fitting a HID kit, however this is cost (and sourcablity of the parts) dependant. Also going in is a Blaupunkt THb 210A sub and will probably get some amplifier to go with it.

Just after thoughts really, i've not done much on it but its came a nice way since when I first bought it :)

looking good... mods sound good but i think a proper badgeless slatted grill should be on top of that list :) and also debadge rear? and paint the rear VW in balck looks cool on red :)

Looks very clean, as above really take the badges of the back and a de-badged grill would look good.

Tommy.

Get some colour coded rear locks and put them on the front doors, will really clean it up

Thanks for the replys guys, much appreciated.

Bobsprout: I'm going to get the front door handles colour coded when I get the spoiler done. I'll use one of the rear door handles for passenger side as it's broken anyway!

wow thats shiny! great work mate, and god luck with future moddin, besta, luck with them handles too dude

You've made a good start with the mods and that paint comes up really well considering it was very faded, looking forward to seeing the rest of your mods
