Windscreen cover - replaces windscreen if it gets broken, like a crack or stone chip. Useful

Legal Cover - depends, but I tend to include it, it'll pay for your legal expenses if you have an accident and someone tries to sue you (for example), which can get pretty expensive.

Wheel alteration sounds like alloys, probably covers things like alloys, colour change, etc etc

i would say yes you will need Windscreen cover and Legal cover. Most companies include these as standard because they are seen as essential.

Wheel alteration is anything other than having the standard wheels on the car.

I'd have windscreen cover on anything that's a bit unusual or has a bonded in screen. I have it on the Camry because a new one would cost me 3 numbers just for the glass.

Legal's a bit of a debate. Yes, it's peace of mind, but at the same time, is it any better than going to a no win no fee firm?

but if someone is sueing you you cannot go to a no-win-no-fee place IIRC. without legal and you have an accident that is your fault and someone chases for persoanl injury you are on your own and everything comes out of your own pocket.

But unless you were doing something stupid enough to invalidate it that's what insurance is for? And if it were invalidated, then so would your legal.

I think i'll try and get both included when I have to renew in a few weeks, better safe than sorry!

insurance only covers damage to vehicles and property. If you have an accident and injure another person, that person is entitled to take legal action against you to recover compensation with those dreaded no win lawyers. If you have legal protection in your insurance then its no problem and your insurance company take care of it.

If you dont have it then you are on your own.

Ah right, I'll ring my insurers and tell them they've got it wrong on my policy then.

i don't want to be that know it all... but here goes anyway... (sorry)

the min level of insurance you can have is third party, this means that if you have an accident that is your fault, your insurance covers the damage to the third party (other person) only... this includes any claim for personal injury made by the injured party.

legal expenses cover/motor legal protection or whatever the insurers choose to call it is to ensure that you are protected against the legal costs of making a claim when you are that wronged party. In my opinion, this is pointless and just another way of the insurers getting an extra £20 quid out of you for something that is unnecesary. Like the other chap said, you can go with a 'no win no fee' Solicitor who will take out a legal expenses policy for you that will do exactly the same and will not cost you a penny. The insurance premium will be deferred so that you don't have to pay it, and will just b recovered as part of the claim from the other side.

this make sense?

not worth it in my opinion. but it is just that. an opinion.

thanks for listening.
