Emissions (Sensor)

Featured Replies

Yesturday i was reversing out of my mates street and heard a loud BANG (was snowing at the time so thought it was kids throwing snowballs, but because it was dark i couldnt see).

Was driving for about 10 mins and noticed a warning light was on, so i turned round and went back home to find out it was the "emissions warning lamp".

Got the emissons test done today and it is well above what it should be and my fuel economy is stupidly low, compared to normal.

Apparently its an O2 sensor according to a code reader.

VW want to charge £115+VAT+fitting for a new sensor and £65 an hour to find out which of the 2 sensors it is.

Anyone know what/if any damage will be done if i keep driving with it like this??

cheers

mine was on 2days ago, but was off yesterday and since.

my light was off yesturday until it got to temperature then it came back on. i started it today and the warning light came on as soon as the engine started

i went to a local garage and they did it for free :-D was going to cost £10 but they let me off.

you need a garage with diagnostic equipment to tell you exactly which sensor is off.

The garage i went to hasnt got this but they looked at both sensors and they said that the 1st sensor has been resting on the engine and has burnt through the casing of the cable, but cant see exactly how far its going through, so they guessed it would more than likely be that one .

Should the cable not be attached to somewhere to prevent this??

if you don't replace it you'll probably end up paying more than that charge in extra fuel costs and you'll possbily kill the cataylitic convertor with unburnt fuel and that'll cost you a lot more. But from what you just said, maybe it's just a case of repairing the wiring.

My Emissions light came on the other day, had appeared about 5 months ago so got the Lamda probe changed, light went out all fine..so i thought.

This Time the Cats damaged, working only at 30%.. but its not the cat on the down pipe, its the Pre Cat on the manifold, £300 parts from VW, well impressed!! thats my Koni shocks and springs delayed while i pay for this :x

sounds so expensive!

mine is off now. what should I do? should I just leave it and keep an eye on it? or should I take it to garage? or should I wait for it coming back on again?

:(

I wouldnt do anything unless it comes on again. Perhaps try and find someone nearby you who has VAGCOM?

just to let you know, mine is still fine.

just to let you know, mine is still fine.

my light is still off (for now) but fuel is still going down quicker than it should.

oh, I should pay more attention to my fuel as well..

Hi, get it plugged in somewhere, mine showed up the Cat convertor problems and after taking out the Pre Cat, which is attached to the exhaust manifold it was buggered beyond belief, totally clogged out and a burn mark round one of the gaskets.

New manifold is now in with new pre-cat, and she goes like a dream now, whole car is so much smoother and quicker.

Ok so your prob might not be the Cat but i would recommend you get it looked at.

well the emissions light is back on after a few week of it being normal. i did just fit an induction last night it that makes a difference?? however it did fall off on the way to college (must not of tightened it properly) what can i do?? (apart from retighten the induction kit, already done that) but i think i need a crank breather because the hose that attached to the original air box wont reach to the induction kit. ?? :?

cheers
