The VW diagnostic tester tells you which sensor is faulty so dont get conned into any 65 pound an hour crap. Its something that you do need to get sorted tho as it may cost you more in the end as above the cats can be damaged and fuel consumption will be poor.

not sorted, but I'm canny sure its the 2st sensor, I'm going to VW at the weekend, cos mine is back on.

may car has been having a bit of trouble starting sometimes aswel, my dad says that could be due to the faulty sensor.

I'm not your dealer so I cant say what they will charge but most places have a fixed price to put the tester on and read out the fault codes. Give them a call and ask what the tester charge is and expalin that all you want them to do is read the engine ECU fault memory and give you a print out. IIRC if it says bank one thats the first sensor and bank two is the second.

well i phoned VW and its £65 per hour for the diagnostic machine and they could fit it. if they can see which sensor it is and fit it under an hour it would only cost £65 with no extra labour charge. what you guys think i should do?? my local garage said its probibly the 1st sensor but couldnt say for sure

well the 1st sensor if i remember correctly £115+VAT the 2nd sensor is about £100+VAT

last time i filled up i got 120 miles to £20

had my MOT today and it failed on emissions, it was suposed to be 0.3 mine was 3.1. more than 10 times higher than it should be.

went to my local garage and they said a place near newcastle deals in VW's, i went through and got a new bank 1 sensor £25 fitted (was gunna be £100+ at VW not fitted)

hopefully this works. got 10days to sort things out for my MOT (failed on sidelights aswel, apparently my angel eyes arent bright enough, i even had a pic of them working on a night, but he couldnt see they in day light)

what kinda car do you drive and what size engine, that maybe why your getting better MPG ??

+ I've got a K&N but that should do too much damage to MPG should it??

gosh, mine had been on the last two days, fortunately today it is off again. it happened 4 or 5 times in the last 2 months. but none of them lasted more than 3 days.

Let me pray not happen again.

Have a guess whats back on.... Yup The exhaust gas warning light again. Was driving along and pulled over after smelling a burning smell. Opened the bonnet and everything looked fine. Went round the back and checked the exhaust and that where the smell was from. Drove home pulled on the drive, left it for a bit and started it back up and the smell had kinda gone, unlike the light on the dash, which is still there.

(it has just had a minor service beginning of the week)

Any ideas on what it could be??

I have done, hes busy all weekend so hopefully it will be next week. The smell from the zorst is still there and it has a slight petrol smell.

alrite m8...i've had xcactly the same probs with my emissions light...i had a back box fittd and guessin a wire was broke by the welder...but all i know is that its a pain when u turn on you are car and have the emissions light beep at u and on constantly..got my m8 to run a diagnostics on the car and it was the first sensor be4 the cat that was the problem...i've also noticed that when u accelarate fast in 2nd and the tanks 1/4 full the light will always come on..if i get it sortd i'll tell u how..lol..

gosh, mine is back on today. ( was on about a few hours 10 days ago). finally, i decided to take my polo to dealer, let me see what the resulte will be.

had my car done. Two faults: breather pipe split, and fault with temp sender.

cost: 180 quid.

time: an hour.

sooo expensive. i was shock and shattered.

On way back from poloshow the light on my dash reappeared (but this time when the standard air filter was on). Went to a garage (where i got my service done) and he seems to think it could be crank sensor, but it would need a dianostic check to be 100% sure. He thinks its that cos its been having problems starting sometimes.

Could the crank sensor be putting this light on??

If it is the crank sensor is it something that will need to be sorted straight away?? (could it be doing major damage??)

Well got the fault codes removed last week and went back today and all 5 this time are from the front lambda sensor. This when i get it replaced it will be my 3rd thats going on. Where can i get a new sensor from?? cos VW are wanting silly prices for one and the last place i got its only last me a few months (was at a VW scrappy though)
