Insurance trying to screw me over?

Featured Replies

Hey all, just looking for a bit of advice really. I've been driving now for about 3 months, got a H reg Polo CL, insured on direct line with my dad as the main driver. My policy is/was about £950, and has been fine, been paying it monthly, however I got a letter earlier in the week saying that me/my dad had contacted them a week before and we had modified our policy, I had a look through the letters and the policy is exactly same except now they expect me to pay £2200 for insurance, instead of the £950 I was paying. I have no idea what there talking about, none of us spoke to them and our policy hasn't been modified.

Anyways my dad just rang them up and apparently they misquoted us originally and the £950 was the wrong quote, but I got my quote online so I don't see how it could be down to user error or anything like that, or even a misquote. They said the reason why the original quote was wrong, was because my dads five year no claims bonus isn't valid on this policy because he already has another car insured with direct line and can't have a no claims bonus on both insurance policies (eh?!), he said we wanted to cancel the policy and now they want an extra £275 cancellation fee off us as well, really don't know what to do here. I get the impression their trying to pull a fast one on me, as we never spoke to them about the policy and I don't see how they could have misquoted us as it was done online. Any advice, and does anyone know if its possible to have two insurance policys with a no claims bonus?

you can only use your no-claims on one policy! sad but true if you have two policys the best bet is to go for a multi car policy, this is what i did with more than it works out cheaper but you have to wait till renewal time : (

ask them for proof of the phone call. If they record everything like they say the do, they should be able to play it back to you.

This is the reason direct line are shite.

hmm, thats what i thought too, they are lying cheating scum bags who aren't worth shit. some stupid cow told me all kinds of crap and then denied it, so i asked for the tape and all of a sudden they would have to "investigate it" and then told me that I would have to pay them so that they could play me the tape

This is the reason direct line are shite.

totally agree with you there, i would never ever use direct line ever again

My dad's insurance tried to screw him over, can't remember who he's with, but they supposudly(sp) had his car down as a xsara instead of a xantia which his car is. xsara's are cheaper to insure. His insurance certificate was correct but their computer had it down as a xsara. year later time for renewal the letter said xsara, he phoned them up and they tried to make him pay for the exra money he 'didn't' pay and it was their mistake in the first place.
