Right, i am new, so hi.

I'm getting a Mk3 polo, 1 litre and should be driving it by next week...if i pass.

Anyway, been looking round for quotes, with the company i work with i'll be driving the car a lot, and possibly the company's small van.

I have got insurance for about £160 a month, £1,900 for the year, Fully Comp!

Sadly, because it's direct line i'm not allowed any mods at all until I'm 25, i phoned them, they didnt ask for my name or anything just a quick call. (I didn't know i couldnt have mods at this point)

So, i phone and ask them how much my monthly price would go up by if i put alloys on a mk3 polo, he tells me that my insurance would be void and they wouldn't insure me, end of call.

Which got me thinking, what if it wasnt a Mk3 polo, what if it was a newer car that has alloys as standard, would they insure me then?

Surely alloys with wider tyres are safer than the skinny one's on the polo now?

I don't wanna void my insurance or anything like that, so its annoyed me a lot.

I could just put some VW alloys on and tell them i didnt know the car was modified at all, i brought it with them on?

(Any reccomendations?)

Yeah thats quite strange because i'm on direct line insured with a mk4 1.4 and it had sport alloys before i bought it, haven't declared anything such as mods yet. but if this is true then maybe it would void my policy in a write off?

if they are non standard then yes your policy would be void

If i put other vw alloys on...would that be classed as non standard?

Did any Mk3 polo come with alloys, or wider wheels?

wouldnt bother with fully comp on a mk3 polo either its cheaper to buy a new one than pay silly price for insurance
