They used to use a Mk1 Golf panel filter in the same way on Renault 5GT cup cars. Fine for race cars but once it gets wet or dirty from trafic film your losing power.

i remember seeing one of these on civic when i went to leicster to pick up a set of wheels i thought it was a intercooler (was dark) until i asked the bloke who i was picking the wheels up from to which he laughed... and when i drove back past broke into histerics lol
