Comments: 4th owner, odometer reads just shy of 46k and there's a comprehensive service history to back most of this up. Generally in very good condition, just needs a little tidying up here and there. Primarily for use as a runaround while I fix my Scirocco, but we'll see what happens... mustn't let this one stop me working on the '83 LX that's currently sat in a garage waiting to be fixed.

Yep, that's the one. Just done a basic oil and filter service on it and replaced the rocker cover gasket, should hopefully be leak-free now. Next up is a bloody good clean and sort out the ding on the tailgate. Should probably do the cambelt too, really.

Nothing much right now. Any time I have for working on cars needs to be spent on the 2 inoperational Sciroccos I have sat around.

Having said that, I do have a Weitec 60/40 kit and some 13" Scirocco Storm alloys lying around that were meant to be for the LX... we'll see!

Just a shame the driver's one isn't a bit more comfortable... need to find a decent passenger seat from a Polo C or similar to nick the padding from. I refuse to lose the style for the sake of comfort :-D

Fitted my mk.I Scirocco Storm alloys as the old tyres were non-matching and close to the limit. Instant improvement in ride comfort and handling with the Continental tyres.

Thats a very nice early mk2 breadvan you have there.

The Scirocco wheels are a very nice addition too. Get the Weitec suspension kit on - you know it makes sense!

Next job it to ladle on the back to black on the front bumper, fook me thats gone grey! Then sort out the rear wiper, surely the early models don't park virtically on the screen do they? Those chessboard seats look fab too, as you say it'd be nice to repair the drivers seat with new foam.

Funny you should say that... last night I replaced the bent rear bumper and used some back to black on the front and rear bumpers. I think it'll take a few applications to get anywhere near black on the front bumper as it is very grey.

Then sort out the rear wiper, surely the early models don't park virtically on the screen do they?

I've also had a look at this. I couldn't get the wiper working. The wiring appears to be connected correctly and I tried a different motor without any success. The heated rear screen doesn't work either so there's obviously a problem somewhere, but the rear washer motor does work so I don't think it's the switch. For the moment I've just re-parked the wiper in the normal place (you can just see it on the side-view picture) and I'll have another look when I've got time.

Incidentally, this car's evil twin was on eBay recently... same colour, same seats, same registration prefix (B), also fairly standard condition but well over 100k and not quite as tidy. It didn't sell at more than I paid for mine :-D

have you checked the power is getting to the tailgate...mine was busted where it goes in that rubber boot between the body and tailagate

VW1s? I've not found the brakes a problem really. As long as they're in good condition and you've got a strong right leg they're perfectly ok for road use. But then I am used to driving a Scirocco with broken brakes, so I wouldn't notice them being bad

Yes, I think there must be a break in the wiring somewhere, I didn't get any reading on my multimeter at the motor. Just a matter of tracing it

Yeah that's likely where it's gone. With it being a B reg it might just have the later brakes on it already.

This weekend I'ah bin mostly trying to sort out the bodywork a bit. The results aren't perfect but then I'm not a professional car painter.

The eagle-eyed will notice that I've also replaced the n/s rear light cluster with the correct version for this car (small reversing light set into a red surround).

I decided to reward the car for passing its MoT (3 rubber exhaust hangers needed) by giving it a jolly good clean and sorting out the bodywork as above. I also had a go at fixing the rear wiper but no joy yet... the wires are broken where expected, but soldering them together isn't good enough, I think I'm going to have to replace the loom :(

I've also ordered some metal number plates so I have matching ones front and rear, I don't really like the modern font plate on the back.

The passenger-side door was missing this plastic trim next to the B-pillar (I'm pretty sure the car's had some accident damage in the past and the door has been replaced) so I found one on a spare door I have and fixed it on... now the doors match!
