On the 13th of April 2008, at 16:37, my beloved (pixie) polo died.

(name of her not chosen by me)

The headgasket went and purely because i was pissed off about this i killed her properly by adding a litre of methanol to the 15 litres of fuel that was left.

it looked cool, and went like hell for about 4 minutes, but now I'm in need of a new engine.

anybody got one laying about???

]

thankyou and its been emotional. :crybaby:

this must be a difficult time for you

Methanol....hmm that sounds cool, did it melt a piston or something then?

methanol  you dont do things by half do you

gutted m8 theres a nice g40 turbo engine for sale would be ideal!

Methanol, it's good shit jah!

Doesn't look like you're taking the time to carefully measure the dose there...

I feel your pain.

"The headgasket went"

well thats not a big deal is it?

so you decided to kill the car?

and make a big emotional post?

i dont get it?

Safety goggles too, remember your chemistry lessons!

My eyes! The goggles do nothing!

I always class my glasses as safety goggles, LOL.

I wouldn't have killed my car over a headgasket.

wouldn't have killed mine either! Quite cheap to fix a headgasket. Cheaper than changing an engine over anyway!

Unless you wanted to upgrade of course ???

so can wanking but do you ware gloves for that??

^^

Well that's why the strange brothers both wear specs, after all :p

You heard it from the mouse's mouth first- it makes you blind!

lol without trying to sound like a noob, what does Methanol do? must be good for something if andy and yoof were putting it in the turbo

Metahnol burns more agresivly and faster than petrol . (basically)

Not sure if pete was running methanol at the pod and but methanol/petrol/nitrous is some proper go-go juice.

As a temporary measure with the right map there is no reason why you cant use abit of methanol on a 1/4 mile strip. The higher octane (around 115) and cooler burning temperatures really lends itself to such applications. Primarily why top fuelers don't use petrol.

Although using methanol on a daily basis can corrode some metals, such as alluminium amongst other parts on the car such as fuel lines. But there additives that can neutralise these effects. Not had any real experience running methanol but have done some minimal reading around the subject so dont take the above as gospel. I am pretty sure pete knows better than to start chucking stuff in the tank willy nilly.

I think petrol in India must be mixed with methanol by law, not sure on percentages but 10% rings a bell. So there is a possibility this percentage wont cause any premature engine wear meaning you can run this daily...

E85 g40...... :doubt: bet gordy brown would soon come and piss on my bonfire

lol cheers Giorgio

*goes to buy 10 gallons of Ethanol*

buy more than that as the mpg on ethanol is complete pants

Don't get ethanol and methanol confused they're totally different.

You couldn't be further from the truth...

Methanol has a high latent heat of evaporation compared to petrol- basically takes alot more heat to evaporate it, obviously the heat comes from piston crowns, cylinder walls, valve faces etc etc, therefore it burns cooler- so mixture density increases, which means more power/torque. Less inital heat also means a slower burn- meaning you can advance the timing more, increase the boost etc- also resulting in more power.

Top fuel dragsters use Nitro Methane, which again is totally different to methanol, although it does contain a varying percentage of it. I'd not reccomend using anything but petrol unless you're very competent with alternative fuels- even the top fuel boys ocasionally have sumps etc blow off because abit too much fuel found its way past the rings...
