HID Ballast Install Location

Featured Replies

Hey guys and girls,

Just a quick question really! from looking in my engine bay on my MK4 polo 1.6 CL i have noticed there is not alot of room to do anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions where i can mount HID ballasts, i was thinking one can be mounted on the slam panel for the drivers side and maybe velcro one to the battery I'm not sure though.

Any suggestions much appreciated :-D

my mate dan was wondering the same thing (teamcmc cl) i suggested maybe near the ECU? theres loads of room there on mark 3's maybe thats a thought?

The ECU is quite far out the way i dont think the wires from the bulb to the ballast would reach :-(

I might mount mine to the chassis in some elborate MOT failing way haha.

Try looking underneat the lights. I've done the same on my Polo saloon and fitted them underneath the lights, holding together with some heavy duty wire ties

I deffiently have wire ties in mind and some sort of double sided tape just looking for good locations.

I think the slam panel would be quite a good place to mount them or maybe near where the horn is. What do you reckon?

On the inner side of the wings? Think someone said a while back that they put them there.

take the front bumper offf and ul prob find plenty of space

i think it will be a bumper job, looks like ill have a fun weekend.

Now I've finished converting my FK angel eyes from LHD to RHD (tutorial to come soon) i will now work on installing the ballasts :o)

Chequers .. FFBM you have a sweet name ..

Its all about the Chequers ..

Lol its Chegers not chequers :-p

So anyone know what screws i have to remove to get the bumper off?

use the inner wings and secure them with cable ties

thats what I've done they haven't moved a inch

I have one on the inner wing and the other down behind one indicator! proper funny locations.

TimW any chance of some pics of that? i wanna do a propper job of mine my mate is trying to persuade me to bodge it lol :o)

make sure u get pics cheggz when you do it

I will do I've already got alot of pics of the angel eyes i have just converted to RHD and the HID install inside the housing its self.

Just waiting for the buggers to dry now :-)

I've just completed the install and I'm very impressed with the HID's i have taken some pictures to hopefully guide others :o)

nice!

it fitted mine in the ends of the bumper bracing 8-)

I got zapped by one of the ballasts :-( installed both but only had the passenger side hooked up.

So while it was still on i decided id try and plug in the drivers side. Was one hell of a belt!!

have you got one of the plug and play kits, whats involved with installing them

Yea it is. Literally you plug two spade connectors into the original harness that goes into the back of the bulb then you have a connector on the ballast its self which gets the power from the two spade connectors.

Then you have two connectors that you plug into the HID bulb its self.

Its really easy tbh the most time you will spend is mounting the ballasts :o)

Where did you get yours from

Got mine from a company in london called smoothzone SmoothZone Website

cable tied to the rear of the crashbar FTW!

I've mounted mine on the inside of the radiator panel and then fed the wires through a drilled hole. i swear my front radiator panel looks like swiss cheese lol. one phat hole for K&N and 2 for wiring these pissin ballasts!
