Some of you may have seen that I had an incident last Saturday that killed the polo.....

Drove into a hail storm and slid on Black Ice and slid front first along a crash barrier.

I title this as "waiting for a mate".....

Spotlamp grill disintegrated on impact, nothing left at all.

I can safely say the re-enforced radiator brace did its job (and also snapped 2 crash barrier posts off at the base) by spinning me away from the barrier, had the stock item been in place I could say the damage would have been worse.

Insurance have given me permission to strip it after the assessor has been, so she will live on in another shell.

It might the end of an era but at the same time it could be the start of something awesome at the same time.

I've looked at it and I need it in my life. every part is going to be boxed and stored for a future use and it will be the start of something new ;)

Worst thing is I'm going to pick up the new car from Cheshire tomorow (if i get there) as well so would only be a slight detour.

Police comment at the scene was "what the fuck is that made of" pointing at the radiator bracket after retrieving 2 sheared crash barrier posts from the other lane, the rad brace is perfectly straight despite a few dents to the front of it.

(the "missing" arch is actually intact)

And Recaro's are the most comfortable thing to crash in ever, I honestly did not feel a thing, no aches or pains.

NewVolvo_zps3be47d13.jpg

I already have certain plans for it.

(Will be using me CP membership renewal sticker on it)

This will mean any Polo I get will be locked away in the garage as a project.

It sucks mate, but excuse to do different/better things which you've been thinking off.

Vr6 leathers are pretty decent to crash in too, are they recaro? Lol

Ye, mine were Astra GTE ones.

None of this flying around the car business getting whiplash etc, I just sat there, very comfortably watched the world in slow motion. I didnt realise how hard it hit the barrier until after I stopped moving and took me a few seconds to work out the drivers door wouldnt open as the wing was blocking it.

It's not RWD but I'll let you off :-p Should be good for towing that shell back too aye?

Aren't stock MK1/2/2F seats Recaro technically? I'm sure they are.

Well were going up in the saab so truly have a choice of tow cars hahaha

I would have cried  where did you get the rad brace from?

I know how you feel I hit the barrier at 80mph+ in my polo

So the time has come to finally finish stripping the shell 3 years since the crash that killed it.

So now its time to rebuild bigger and better, follow up and continue wiith original plans for where my old polo was going so will continue using this build thread i think, 90% of the parts on the old girl are salvageable, and even the engine will be reused with all the original flaws taken out and 3 years worth of gained knowledge to put back into it.

Great to have you back mate!

5years standing and I expected to find a rusty seized engine, removed the cam cover to find perfectly polished surfaces...

Went to loosen up with a bar on the lower pulley after spraying a load of thin oil in the cylinders and everything spun free.
