Trust me that was an improvement plus a bit of 90's styling. lol The passenger side was fine but the drivers door had a lot of surface rust on it, so this was the quick fix before UD.

do you get to run wig-wag head lights and sirens?

  • Author

Nope, just body markings at the moment, but they are looking at allowing us to use green lights as they require no special rights/insurance or training as you still have to abide by road laws.

Right this is just so i can write it up properly on the bike carb FAQ.... will include a wiring diagram when I'm done

NO ONE FOLLOW THIS TILL I VERIFY EVERYTHING - YOU MIGHT BLOW YOUR CAR UP

I'm using the black wire (SW 0.5) goes from ignition to relay as a trigger for the coil relay, this is then switching on (GE/BL 0.5) which triggers the pumps to run.

Ill check it to verify this after work tomorrow as i need to work out which way the powers running.

Fully braided throughout with HEL braided hoses where the rubber ones would have been.

Can u run braided hoses under car ? never seen it before thats all lol looks sick doeeeeeeeee

  • Author

Yep, but it has to be super secure, hence all the P-clips along stock mounting points, the pipe doesnt sag think its more trick of the picture.

Nice one on the braided hoses!! What's the cost if you don't mind my asking?

How come you've gone braided anyway man?

  • Author

Ill put up a full list of whats needed to do the whole setup on the weekend, but total cost came to just short of £150, luckily enough I had a set of HEL braided hoses knocking around the garage to replace the rubber ones on the stock setup.

I know it requires about 10M of braided hose, 20 P-clips and some (ok lots and lots) swearing. Think if worn away my finger prints.

Why: well years back I redid the brake lines on a car in metal pipe, with all the proper tools for bending and flaring, it was a huge arse ache on an entirely unimaginable scale and vowed that i would never do the job myself again. But braided hoses are a different matter, there easy to work with, they dont kink, you dont need to worry about them bending as they flow with the shape of the body work fitting a 4.5M length to a car in one go i easier than trying the same with 4.5M of metal tube.

It was also a challenge for myself as id said months ago i was going to do it and now i have the finished piece.

Sister mk2 polo runs a braided line on the passengers side front as the original metal work failed the MOT, so i made a replacement line, MOT tester didnt even bat an eyelid.

I've also kept enough length at the back so that i can just plumb in the calipers when i finally get round to my disc conversion.

Fair enough, ease of replacement then.

Can you not get new hard lines from VW?

  • Author

would have probably cost the same if its still available

plus it would mean removing the subframe, exhaust, possibly rear axel and a few other things to fit it all in as a one piece pre-bent item, one rear line was T-pieced with the passenger wheel on the stock setup, while the other was one pipe from MC to rear axel, probably an easy job to do originally when the engine wasn't in.

Now all 4 wheels are on there own feed, setup diagonally.

I think dealer pipes are just lengths, not shaped. At least that's what the local parts department told me. Bit disappointing as I know other manufactorer's dealers will sell you nice pre-shaped pipes. Good work again, in the fullness of time I shall be copying you sir, a full parts list would be very welcome, thank you very much indeed

everything m10x1? Gna be sorting mine next month :D

Right, I've got to try and work out the correct names for things.

Goodridge/HEL brake hose kit (replaces the rubber sections, has the ends that fit into the OEM mounts)

11m of Aeroquip -3 braided brake line (you almost need 4.5m of line to go from rear drivers axel to the MC) (If your going to run them inside the car then 11m will be too much.

20 P-clips Cant remeber how many i actually used)

10-15 5mm starlock washers (unscrew the original pipe mounts and use the studs to mount the p-clips, starlocks push on to hold everything)

4 banjo bolts

8 copper washers

4 20 degree banjo's (so the hose dangles slightly downwards)

12 olives

8 imperial to metric adapters (1 in each rear cylinder, 1 each side on of the HEL rear brake lines (6 in all for the rear), 1 for the front hose (1 each side)

8 straight (w/swivel) braided line ends (if you can get a right angle version then fitting on the body mount to rear axel might be a lot easier, otherwise some selective hammering will give enough space for a straight fitting), you need the swivel so that the line can turn freely after fitting to the MC

Ill find the invoice list in a minute for the right sizes and proper names and edit accordingly, I took 1 HEL Hose, rear cylinder and the new MC in to the rally shop with me to check thread size.
