Friday Evening @ Cairn o' Mount

Featured Replies

I finished fitting my new brake discs and pads on Friday afternoon. The weather was brilliant and I was really up for going for a drive...only problem was the brake pedal was going to the floor after bleeding the front brakes. I really didn't want to bleed the whole system until my new master cylinder arrived, so I was demoted to passenger and man with the cam.

About mid afternoon Steven appeared in his immaculate EK9 Civic Type R (formally owner of a dishy Mk4 Polo). He was shortly followed by Stuart in the G40 and Callum in his Civic Coupe.

So we headed off south bound to trek over Cairn o' Mount...again. First time for Callum and Steven, I think they enjoyed it! We stopped for some photos at the Clatterin' Brig (that's clattering bridge in English ) and to pick a suitably large gap in traffic for the drive up the mountain. Nothing worse than getting stuck behind a slow car, which is exactly what happened...old people doing 40mph in a diesel Focus...YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

450 meters above sea level. You can just see the sea at the top right of the horizon:

Spoon 4 Piston Calipers...feel the power!

The ascent only lasts 10mins or so...the descent how ever lasts a good while longer making up most of the 14 mile road. The speed picked up a little here. With the EK9 out in front most of the pictures are of it...but that's no bad thing...

The road eventually descends enough for trees to reappear. As it winds through the forest it snakes left and right over lumps, humps and bumps. Your on the seat of your pants at 40mph. The best section for sure...braking points made for a good opportunity to take steady pictures as the seat belt held me in:

Got to treat your car well, the G40 gets a power wash after a good spanking:

Updated with the rest of the pics... a lot of the good angles were too blurred from the car moving about whilst taking the picture. Will have to try again in future with a DSLR.
