A3 2.0fsi & mk5 golf gti

Featured Replies

Are these basically the same engine?

I was just looking at the stats and they are pretty close.

can i assume that the 2 cars are on par with each each other performance wise, mpg etc.

would the gti handle better though?

The GTi being a performance orientated model would probably have better handling...after all it is reported as being the first proper GTi since the Mk2 ceased production in 1990?

GTI for fun, A3 for pimping and bitches

Go with the GTI

Hence why I'd chose the A3 :unibrow:

Get it in Quattro guise and add some coilovers and you kill two birds with 1 stone...or pick two up in one night

Ash :)

Neither. Both cars are weighed down with too much bullshit. The original GTi only had half the power from a rev-happy 1.6i 8v. The massive, turbocharged MK5 is half a ton heavier. Anyone who likens the two in the same conversation is full of shit.

I think you need to ask yourself, are you REALLY into cars? :-p:lol:

I couldnt give a shit what "birds" think of the car i drive

I like teh audi interior and i like the front end. but it is a bit more expensive.

either one it will be lowered anyway. was also looking at what i would do to alter it and the costs involved.

I'm thinking with a3, less to do but with gti, got a lot!! but then the a3 is more expensive so neither comes out on top

Might be heavier blah blah blah but its still faster.

The Mk5 is almost 2 seconds faster than the Mk1. My Polo GTI is also faster than a Mk1 Golf GTI, despite it being quite heavy for a supermini

Speed speed speed,is it as much fun driving in traffic? When you're limited to legal speeds? Its a simulator, very effective at straying over the limit without a challenge.

I'm pretty sure its quite great to drive. I've got a new Focus...same class of car...it's not a go faster model and it handles excellently. Mundane family cars shouldn't be so accomplished.

Audi :)

I own an Audi is better than saying i own a VW

I just like Audi's

Maybe i should leave this forum?

lol

Guys, i didnt mean to create an arguement, i was just intersted to know whether it was more or less the same car engine wise.

i i dont care whether it is an audi or vw, not the name anyway, i like the styling both externally and internally of the audi but I'm going to have tp pay alot more for it. but yet the vw also ticks most of my boxes, although one thing that does annoy me is the fuel and temperature gauge is at the bottom rather than the top, i dont know why but it kinda bugs me!! anyone or is it jsut me??

You didn't mean to create an argument...but you didn't take into account MikeyMK finding your thread

Aye, but still, with 4WD and coilovers I reckon the Audi would have the edge even if you put the Golf on some coilies.

Last post was meant as a joke btw....although I'd still have the Audi.

Ash

4WD isn't the be all and end all...especially when it's only Haldex. Like wise...coil overs aren't a requirement to make a car handle well...you've got more chance of ruining a car like Golf GTi with them than improving it.

The Audi is more refined and looks nicer on the outside and definitely better on the inside!

but... the audi is boring to me...it's too 'safe' an option! golf has much more character and is more focused on driving than bein comfy and cosy like the audi

 ...Haldex is used on VW's, Audi's, Saab's, etc and even the Veyron.. why? because it works by putting the power to the wheels which have traction...that makes sense for a road car which will in most cases have front wheel traction that is enough to pull the car along...

if i had a Land Rover then permanant 4wd is much better.. but we're talking Audi's and VW's here so keep the 'only' haldex comments for the Off-Roading forums :)

I love my GTi.

Get the Golf

if it was me id go for the golf gti, because gti sounds just a bit more special than 'an a3'

I'm getting a bit bored of Audi's now, bar the sporty ones of course. There are more A4's in Aberdeen than Mondeos and 3-series

The Veyron only puts 20% of its power to the front axle I believe?

I'm just saying the advantages of Haldex on an A3 over a Golf GTi are probably quite minimal given that the A3 will be FWD the majority of the time.

hey test richie, i quite like your modding style, u modded your gti? any pcs?

thats the thing, if it is an a3 it would ahve to be s-line then i would be more than happy witht he look and only thing needing doing is lowering really.

however if it is a gti, i would need a lot of colour coding and also a reiger front splitter plus coils and maybe new wheels. infact that top pic in the link is what i want, it makes my willy grow everytime i look at it!!
