Featured Replies

Doesn Any one know in terms of insurance what is cheaper

to buy a 6n2 1.6 Gti (for example)

or to put that same engine into a mk4

Same engine but obviously one way is gnna be modifying the car so I'm not sure what would be cheaper?

Surely insurance companies don't like people modding cars so it makes sense to just gt the modded model.

get some quotes see what they say.

It would be harder to get insurance for a different engine in a car, mainly because it seems normal insurers cant get their head round a car which has had an engine swap. Therefore you would probably need specialist insurance which narrows down your choices so you'll have only a couple of quotes to consider.

Well my old polo was £2300, and i got a quote for an anniversary golf (the car the engine came from) and it was only £2k

But the polo also had alloys, suspension etc and increased power :unibrow:

That was over 2 years ago so it might be different now

its cheaper to insure a g40 conversion than to insure a genuine G

i looked into converting mine to a G and it was cheaper to insure, BUT its not guna be a genuine one...and i like my GT staying GT

sooo it could be cheaper to insure your with a gti lump init, but, how much is it guna cost to do..is it really guna end up cheaper in the end

Thats the thing, i really don't see the point in spending 1000's on putting a new engine in, when i could just buy the car with the engine, was just trying to find out if it was gnna be that much cheaper putting the engine into my car and then getting insurance. Seems to be cheaper to buy the car.

in the garage yesterday and some guy is putting the Audi TT engine into his mk3 golf.......£10,000 :o !!!

:shock::lol::lol:

Mine was only £6k nearly 3 years ago :lol: same engine into a polo, what garage is that? :lol:

Did you have yours done a Dubsport Walsh?

it totally depends on the insurance company and how their pricing scheme works. When I was getting quotes for my gt converted to g40 when I first bought it years ago, some companies treated it as a gt with xxx bhp increase, other treated it as a G40 with xxx modifications.... some screamed and hung up the phone, esp when I said my postcode was OL1 which it was at the time.
