Actually... it isnt.

A peugeot 205 XS is only 1 group up, and it has twice the power, 5 times the handling ability and looks twice as cool.

ah, learn somethin new each day.

just like the insurance on the 16v is the same as a golf GTI (<-- almost make me cry when i found out)

hi, does anybody know what insurancwe grop a polo g40 would be in (1275 cc with charger)

Also what group would a g40 be in, in comparison to a mk4 16v?

think they are 13/14

but if you try and insure with direct line they use there own little system so prob different with them

Hardly any companies actually use the group system any more, especially on older cars.

Check out http://www.parkers.co.uk/insurance

Search for the car and it tells you the insurance group. Hope it helps.

G40 =14

the new polo gtis are 13

I think for the automated online systems, most insurers use groups from the association of british insurers (abi). They have both the traditional 1-20 and the more modern 1-50, although i think for a car of that age they just use 1-20, so it is about group 4 i believe. Although igroups do count for quite a bit, I'm sure some agencies use their own rating system- especially big ones like direct line. Probably constructed from their own data.

Its very useful for a guide though, i have done plenty of insurance group shopping before buying cars in the past. If you go to parkers you can sort by igroups, then it will list all the major cars. This is how i came to own a Fiat Uno Turbo, which was (despite its many failings) a true pocket rocket and possibly the lowest insurance group turbo (bar brand new cars). For example, it is the same insurance group as a 1.8 golf driver, which is an absolute slug by comparison.

wow i didnt realise this

I'm planning on getting another car soon and wanted to know if my insurance would increase or decrease in comparison
