I've got a trade card for halfords and notice they're cheaper than gsf for cam belts and water pumps for the bread

can they be trusted or pay the extra and go elsewhere

No better or worse than any other pattern part in my opinion.

used to work there for years - still got my trade cards etc - they all the same bits - but u get what u pay for

so mr frauds...would you run their stuff on your car?

I'm begining to think i might not trust their cambelts

I personally have had bad experiences, so I pay the extra now for either quality replacement parts or OE parts

^^I'm with you mate, you may pay a little more but you know with VAG parts it'll be ok... but on the same note, I've never had any issue with the bits i have bought from halfords...

its up to you, depends on budget i suppose...

Generally I'm quite happy to buy stereos, tools, cleaning gear, paint etc from Halfords but I much prefer to goto someone where like GSF or Volkswagen for actual mechanical parts. I think its more to do with the few times I've tried to buy pars from Halfords I always end up having some idiot staring at me with an empty look on there face. Just seems like you don't have to know anything about cars to work there so sometimes its a task in itself to get the correct part. Where as my local GSF / Volkswagen you tell'em what you want and they go get it. No confused empty looks!

Thats exactly the same as me in the post above. Even asking for the right light bulb can sometimes be a problem if its not on the shelf! Although some people that work in Halfords do know their stuff and are helpful.

Agreed, I went there the other day to get a thermostat and got told they dont stock them. Ok so can you order one in.

i have no problems with all the stuff on trade, parts are normally good makes branded with halfords

batteries are made by varta, so good batteries!

The only real problem with Halfords is the majority of their staff. Its not really the fault of said staff,as their fresh out of school and dont know anything. I needed a head gasket on a sunday afternoon for a 94 1.3 Fiesta. "cant get them." So i said 94 1.3 Escort. "got one." I then proceeded to announce "its the same bloody part,mate" to which i just got a gormless spotty-faced look.

For the last 2 and a half weeks I've been trying to sort out mymisfire problem, replacing pretty much the whole iginiton system on my car, I replaced the Distributor, the cap,rotor arm, ht leads, spark plugs and coil but the problem was the shitty halford ht leads which wernt sealed properly, one of them wasnt sparking to the plug so, one cylinder was misfiring.

Halfords = Hassle.

I gave them a chance but i dont think ill bother buying basic parts off them again.

I work there, I don't use their parts! Cambelts will have been sat on the shelf years, I wouldn't use one. Reason for retarded staff is lack of training, aside from another chap at my branch (Bletchley - Milton Keynes) nobody knows anything about cars. Oil and tools are ok on trade tho, I use oil filters, as there made my fram, and bulbs etc as mentioned. Never get anything ordered in, most of it comes via local motor factors you could visit anyway.

As a company, Halfords is shit.

I really should get a decent job. on the other hand, Anybody in Milton Keynes? come say hello, Bletchley branch, opposite tesco.

Yeah,unless they've got a deal on. They've gone so downhill,someone must be accountable? When it was a small shelf-stock shop in central Milton Keynes it was packed. I always had to que at the tills when buying bike parts. Sure,they're bigger now. But the places are always empty,and i never have to que at the one till ever open at one time. Just how are they surviving?

I'm same as you lot on this one, any mechanical parts i'll go to the manufacturer and pay that little bit more for ease of mind, anything else such accessories then halfrauds it is justy for ease as its only in my town
