and generally fitted the bits and bobs i could just need to finish the head and do the valve clearances and rebuild it then try to remeber which wires go were lol

ohh and i think this is gna me my daily due to cheep insurance but not until the end of the yuear will need to get the welding done and i can get everything done porperly rather than rush it also be able to save up and get the wheels powdercoated properly or maybe get some differnt rims:) what ever i do i will order a lowering kit next month

80/80 should get it scraping it arse along haha.

also got some mk3 side carpets which i modified to fit to cover up all the red and holes e.c.t make it abit more respectable.many thanx to joel(oilyfingers) fot sorting them out for me.

looking good

you took the zust off then

ill have a look for those parts at the weekend, you might need to PM on friday or something and remind me :D

engine bay looks pretty smart! what colour are you doing the head and rocker? red/black?

  • Author

ok cheers ill pm you friday.

i never fitted it in the 1st place as i just removed the whole exhuast in 1 go rather than spliting it wen i took the engine out

then just rested it on and took a snap:)

will fit it properly wen i take the car to work. ill make a nice bracket so it sits purrrfectly and so it dont stick out to far.

well had to make big push tonight to get it all back together as I've got to go away for the week coming for honda tranining down in london.

so I've had to push it to one side and leave it be.

did manage to get it all back together but in a huge rush i think the head is out one tooth on the cambelt as i think the valves are just touching the pistons.and i didnt get to paint every thing but atleast i wont have to rush it wen io get back

here it is atm

didnt manage to get any of the rebuild as i was in such a rush

that pic looks like a old skool pic from the 90's  think its the lighting :p

well came back from london yesterday and had a little tinker with it got a spark now and it runs but like a rite bag of spanners

wil run but stall on idle

found the problem to be coming from cylinder 3 i can remove the ht lead and nothing happens but i i do it to any other of the ht leads it stalls

it has new leads, rotor arm,cap so the only thing i could possible think of it the points??and i marked the distributer before removal.

hmmmmmmmmmmm

what do you reckon??

sounds like an air leak to me my commet blue used to this turned out was the inlet mani gasket.i used a g40 gasket in the end as they have a raised bit so once you tighten it down it crushes to seal better give it try but sounds exactly the same symptoms as mine

also did you get my pm last week

luke

  • Author

had all new inlet gasket, head gasket, exhaust gasket every one you can think of

rebuilt the whole head with all new seals and gaskets

alright bud, glad you back home.

Right, my dads land rover use to do this. Have you replaced the points or just cleaned up the old ones???

also try swapping spark plug lead 3 with another one eg, swap 3 for 2. Then remove the ht lead that you swaped, and see if it makes any difference, like what you did to find out it was ht lead no.3. Does that make any sense??? hope so.

let us know how you get on bud.

  • Author

rite spent today changing ht leads swapping spark plugs e.c.t inspecting points and re settin them trying old parts which i know worked

still no joy what rite at the point of kicking the car and thaught ill just check the leads again

removed the ht lead frm the 3rd cylinder didnt effect it

then started to remove the other leads one by one removed the ht lead from number on need low and behold nothing happend wasa running on 2 cylinders swaped the leads over and boom sweet as a nut

IT LIVES

so all a long my retarded brain had put the wrong leads on the wrong plugs even though i marked them with tape and numbers

i feel such a tw*t now but o well it runs and every thing works and will learn from my silly mistake

just need to rebuld the drive shaft now so i can move it and then get the welding done and mot time:)

max

I can appreciate all the work you've done having done similar work to my square but you've done a lot more detail work on the engine 8-) . Looks like it will turn out great.. theres always one silly thing that holds you up  .

I was about to ask if it had anything to do with carb because when I bolted on my working pierburg the car just wouldn't Idle so just made the decision to make the final push and fit the webber I luckily had.

  • Author

ok well its all back together and running sweet

will be taking it to work for a few more bits to be perfected.

took these pics earlier even though i haven't cleaned it and its very dirty.

just need to fit the black fuel flap and the outsides complete again.

not sure if i should put the coupe s kit back on??? what do you guys think? might cover abit of the arch rust lol

106jpg.jpg

104jpg.jpg

105jpg.jpg

this is the engine bay atm looks abit shite as i still need to get a polished rockercover,k need n ait filter and paint the fan housing but under all the unpainted parts is anice shiney block and gearbox.

before

5734_12.jpg

after

107jpg.jpg

even though I've put the old rusty bits back on it still looks a 100 times better carnt wait to get al the shiney bits now:)

future plans are

80/80 lowering kit

165/55/13 tyres for the front

powdercoat the mattigs dark grey and put a red strip in

get a few interiour bits to make it mint

chrome/polished rocker cover

chrome/polished fan housing

nice little bolt on air filter

paint the exhaust then get a manifold and full system

what do you guys think to me fitting the kit on it again???

comment welcome

OH GOD! that bay is looking a thousand times better already! i still cant help but think relocate washer bottle behind skuttle :p

and get the s kit back on i say mate

  • Author

yeh i would move the washer bottle but then it wil leave a nasty looking bracket which isnt to plesant

I'm currently enquiring about a welding course at my local college so i could grind it of and weld the bracket elsewhere maybe in the future.

i might have a little play though and see how it looks plus it would hide a few pipes and wires:)

dremel the bracket off so u dont have to weld the strut and paint the strut and then make a new bracket and bolt that to the scuttle :p sorted! that bay is crying out to be empty! DOO IIT!!!

  • Author

well its food for thaught hmmmmmmmmmmm

maybe after I've got a few other things done:)

ill have a look tomorrow

well the cars at work now

been tinkering in my lunch hours

cleaned and put the alternator back on just need to fit the belt.

drilled out the battery securing bolt as it had snapped and put a new thread in.

and cleaned a few more bits under the car aswell as powerhosed the inner arches

looks alot better now also got a black fuel flap on the bay for 99p in mint condition which was abit of luck.

I'm going to put the arches back on soon might spray them gloss black first as there abit faded.

also polomon did this photoshop for me thanx mate look ace

untitledsdfwrf-1.jpg

mmm NOYCE! and cough cough *POLOMON* cough cough :p  besta' luck with it doin that chop was like the old days of doing chops on a car i was so close to having :p

lol

cheers lets hope it become reality very soon.......

might be after i get back from holiday early july as I've got a few expences to pay for including tax for my caddy which is 100 quid for six bloody months grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and a gtd turbo engine which i canrt miss the oppitunity for one.

  • 2 months later...
  • Author

now for sale :(

if you can weld buy this car lol

needs the sills plating in 3 little places and a small section in the rear chassis leg and maybe the battery tray

comes without the wheels just standard ones full coupe s kit and the complete rebuilt shiney engine which runs sweet only roughly 80k on it

no m.o.t or tax

300quid to get my money back

with a little welding and a few shiney bits under the bonnet(rockercover/radfan housing/airfilter you have a show quality bay

front arches and front panel are mint bottom of rear arches have abit of rust but nothing to bad and there is a rust hole in the spare wheel wel but not a mot failure

max

you've got taste mate, the caddys awesome. whats a guide price for a set of mattigs? is it a case of going on ebay.de? want a set for my 86'loon.
