Never once been asked to open the boot to check the spare. but was picked up with my saxo due the cage not being secure as one hinge bracket wasnt fitted properly by myself.

My polo passed without its reversing lights, MOT tester was happy with my rear spots as replacements but did warn me about them being manualy switched in case i left them on.

A certain MOT garage chain in N. W. Wales currently seem to be employing semi-blind testers, that notice small rust holes (1cm) but fail to notice that the exhaust pipe isnt even in one piece and that were the mounting should be is in fact a massive hole.

I used to help out at a garage, and i was told that if there is a light, the bulb must work. we used to test all lights including reversing light, was a bit of a dodgy garage though

yeah most garages are ok saying they will pass you as long as you fix it, some will pass you but charge you a bomb for replacing a bloody bulb!!!

i had the same with a wiper that was cracked, they said it would be a fail unless i buy one off them which was about £15!! rip off merchants or what!!

You are not breaking the law if you don't carry a spare.
