hi, I've got a polo mk3 genesis with gt engine conversion and was wondering whats the best thing to do now its m.o.t time, the car is decat at the moment but i was told when i bought the car that as the engine is out of a h reg it should pass even though the engineis not declared on log book so i have no proof of what year the engine is. p.s the cars on a k reg

If an engine has been modified in any way, it still has to meet the exhaust emission requirements according to the age of the vehicle. so if it was made on or after 01/07/1992 it will need a cat.

not true, if you can prove that the car the engine came out of is pre-aug92 then it wont have to do a cat test. However, you'l probably need a copy of the V5 from the original car and a sympathetic MOT tester. I know people who have done this before. However, since you've not got the engine code on the log book changed this probably isn't going to be possible anyway as on paper the car still has it's original engine in it!

Plus since you say you can't prove the age of the car the engine came out of, you're probably pretty stuck. I'd go for the test anyway, there's still a chance it'll pass the cat test without actually having a cat as long as the engine is in very good condition and running perfectly. Then if it fails you can fit one. I've seen someone go for an mot with a cat bolted onto the end of the exhaust and pass!

cheers would it fail if i was to remove the middle section baffler or what ever its called and replace with a cat from an other car, that make sense????
