IIRC yes. I'm pretty sure that it will.

Everything I've read says it's the same head.

Yes, to all intents it's the same part. The cam is different, but directly interchagable, and the injection is totally seperate to the head.

Pretty much all the 1.3 heads are identical with the exception of the G40 head which has sodium filled exhaust valves.

Some have double valve springs and some have different diameter valve stems, but that's another story altogether that I don't think anyone has a proper theory for. It seems later heads have smaller diameter stems, but don't know about the double springing.

My 1.0 Mk3 had DVS, but my 1.3 Golf doesn't...

my H reg GT lump has double valve springs if its of use. All mk3 heads are interchangeable. The only thing i have wondered about is putting an early head on a late car, as the wiring for the oil pressure senders may be different.

That shouldn't be too much of an issue as iirc the later heads have a blanking plug where the 2nd oil pressure sender would go. You should be able to remove that and install a 2nd pressure sender.

Cheers dude, i scrapped a late head before i thought to check and see what the crack was with that - wasnt sure if it was a different casting.

Nice to know

I've been told the othr day that a gt head wouldnt work on a old standerd spi bottom end as the spi is low compression and the gt is high compression i thought it was the g40 was low compression and the others were high does anyone know whats right and any reasons why i couldnt just convert the head over?

so in theory will it fit a 2g? apart from the fact it will not have the mechanical fuel pump?

The GT is higher compression but this is done by the bottom end

the heads are interchangable between all the 1272cc Mk3's
