Petrol Strike, and Panic buying, anyone affected?

Featured Replies

Morning :)

I went down to my local petrol station this morning to stick a tenner in my car, to find massive queues all the way down the road!

Went to another one, and they had sold out!

I am in Hastings, East Sussex, Miles and miles from Scotland.

Anyone else found this?

Crazy crazy if you ask me.

Its all a load of bollocks. Media scare people into buying, nothing ever comes of it though. Never panic bought it, haven't used my car any less than I would normally and never ran out of petrol yet.

It is a load of bull, and i fully agree with you mate, however it dont stop average joe doing it, I only went cos I actually needed some, to find "No Unleaded/diesel" boards displayed.

The media does cause this panic in the Uk public. I have 46 miles left (according to the display in my car) so i will have to light use my car till they get more.

The media are dicks. But the people are idiots. Of all the refineries (9 i think),only one is striking, and well within its margins and reserves. Britains reserves are 70 days, the strike is just a few,it'll have no impact. All this pointless hype just sells more oil,as cars with full fuel tanks get lower miles per gallon due to the weight. Its only the panic buying that'll cause any problems.

Tell me about it, i'd been running on red for a couple of days so i went to stick £20 in the other morning, and had to wait about half an hour before i could get any. And i only waited because i NEEDED it to get to work/college this week.

Crazy, itll be back to its normal self in a few days, but still with sky high prices.

Its abit sporadic here. Most garages limit you to £15 fuel so I stuck some v-power in the polo as no one seems to want to buy the expensive stuff lol

I've got 2 cars though both with fuel so shouldnt see any problems but its just panic buying which is causing the problems right now so I'm expecting garages to have decent supplies shortly.

Its a great scam to get everyone buying more petrol ;)

its not the people who are buying fuel as normal that are causing the problems, its the people who normally put £5 in who are now brimming their tanks.

couldnt agree more, half an hour waiting at the pumps was like 4 cars in front of me putting £60 each in. Since when does anyone do that!

I'm in the north east of Scotland and its not been too bad here.

Although I have seen people panic buying and Asda here is limiting people to only £20 of fuel.

As has been said though its all stupid!

The plant is closing for one day and its not going to affect anything but as everyone is panic buying the tankers that fill everywhere up can't keep up with the demand so thats why fuel is running out.

Basically its our own fault that there is no fuel :? , just shows how stupid we are as a nation I think!

i fueled up last night at shell didnt have to wait nobody round here is arsed about it we have a nice big oil refinerory 15 miles away called stanlo

I'm in Central Scotland and it seems okay here....just now.

But what i have noticed and the supermarket stations are

guilty of it too is PROFITEERING.5 stations have put their

prices up 2p a litre since 9.00pm last night.

Stupidity doesn't come into it mate....if you need fuel, you pay...end of.!

I thought this was a Scottish problem? Why are people in Sussex panic buying?

Me!! I always fill my car to the top. I do it because other wise I'd be stopping at the garage a couple of times a week.

This panic buying is ridiculous though, I like in Suffolk and I had to queue for ages for it but my petrol light was on so I didn't really want to push my luck.

every thing is normal here, tbh i wish they would run out of fuel, i've spent over over £70 in 8 days :(

I do think the panic buying is stupidity, but I don't think it's a bad idea to put some petrol in a bit earlier than normal if you know it'll save you time and hassle in the end.

On the way back from reading (which is sort of south), the petrol station we pulled up at was packed. And many of the pumps were out of fuel! Mental

garage near me has been priced up at 110 something, and 120 something for diesel

There was a garage in Kirkaldy selling diesel at £1.45.9p last week.

hmmmm just bin to sutton maddock and to say the least it was empty,

the cheapest fuel around for miles need they haven't sold out and they haven't got half hr queus so i filled up the tank + 2 x 5l petrol cannisters (thought i would make the most of it while i could)

its all normal in preston, and I'm definitly the kind of person who's amount of fuel directly correlates to how wild i got the night before lol

agreed and at higher prices! I'm glad i filled up thursday before all the prices round here shot up and were not really being affected!!

Prices shot up by 2p in a day or so here.

Luckily I filled up last week.

Was a reasonable queue on Saturday but that could have been cos of the rally.

so pretty much my post was pointless
