I might be buying a car next week which has no TAX or MOT. Problem is its miles away from me and i carnt get a car with a tobar

So i was thinking about getting my mate to drive us down sort the paperwork out on the car ect and then ring the RAC tell them my head gasket has gone whilst visting a 'friend'.

Now when i broke down a few months ago the man in the toe truck didnt check the car or anything i told him it wasnt going to go as the crank seal had gone so he put it on the trailer and took me home. But he wasnt in an RAC truck he was like a sub contractor, so if anyone knows....

would a proper RAC worker, check the car for TAX and MOT?

Dont want to tax or mot the car because its going to be a project

when i bought my GT, i bought tax, but the considerate person i bought it off hadnt sent the V5 off so the tax disc went to him

i *had* to drive to a party one night so thought fuck it I've paid and drove it, low and behold it broke down

and wouldnt tow me because i wasnt showin a tax disc, but that was one of the vans and not a proper recovery truck

stick a valid tax disc from another motor and if they dont check it you might get away with it.

we've done it before and got them to fix a car that had been standing for 7 years ( needed the points fiddling with ) and sorted us out so we could drive it home.

if they do tow it and the wheels are on the road they could be done for towing an unroadworthy vehicle, i always ask every rac or aa person I'm with to find out what they would do

Yeah you'd be canny screwed if you got caught no doubt.

A) No MOT

B) No Tax

C) Essentially using fraud to get them to tow the car

and I'm guessing your not going to insure it as well which is another thing.

My mate said swap plates from my car to his (both mk3 polos) but i think i might get sent to prison for a very long time.

If you was moving a car yourself on a full car transporter thing i take it you dont need the above?

As long as its being trailored and not towed that is true.

i normally just tell them the cars too low and they bring a flat bed

and aye if all 4 wheels are off the ground you dont need sweet fa

you can rent a trailer for 32.50 if you've got a vehicle you can tow it with, they are from cov and can be found on ebay bar that theres another one some lad was tellin me about, have a search on my posts about trailering a car and some useful info was on there

People are saying if you disable the engine ie removed the dizzy and use a fixed bar to toe it its legal? They say you dont need tax, mot or insurance..

Do you need someone in the other car to steer with those fixed bars? is that abit of a thick question?

when i was tryin to blag the RAC guy it was a fixed bar and he wasnt havin any of it!

RAC were amazing when my G40 broke down in liverpool. it needed a new coil which obviouly i wasnt getting on a saturday evening

they sent an rac man out who checked it over on saturday.. we wernt leaving till sunday so they said right just ring us when your ready on sunday.

SO... sunday night after we had finished boozing, well not me as i was driving. i rang them and they sent a massive flat bed with a toyota on the back..the sub contracted flat bed driver took the car off put mine on gave me the keys to the toyota said 'drive home i'll be there an hour or so later' and so he did..carefully dropped my car in my street took the toyota back and i got a new coil monday morning!

they rang me loads to confirm what was happening.. and the rac man when i rang on saturday was there in 15mins and the flat bed on the sunday in 30 mins....

all for £7.50 a month!! amazing! plus they have towed me from work once when my rear brake shoes came off the linings ha ha

they do check tax and stuff I'm sure.

or you could insist they send you a flatbead truck, my car is lowered so i'd never want it to be towed as i can guarantee they'll damage it taking it on and off theat big tow thing....

guy moaning they wouldnt take his transit because the tax was out, but that wasnt with a flatbed.

Apparently they need a operators licence? to take a car without tax and only flatbed drivers can do this.

Didnt the recovery guy (sent by the RAC) who picked us up in Preston say that if he goes to collect a car and it has no tax then he rings the coppers straight away Saf?

cant remember salz was pretty wasted and full of kebab but i think he did, pl us we were asking him all kind of stupid questiosn like if we were drunk and drugged out our faces would they call the cops and they said yeh!

oi oi oi whoa there petal! the car may be a bit ghey but it aint no tosser, and we wouldnt have got to see the gt40 flying on the m60 adn then that proper old skool zimzimmer off the main road outside me house

Good times in that car, it was just a tosser on that occasion...but even then it was fun. Going into the dodgy pub for a wee.
