I'm looking at some subs, I'm interested in the alpine E 800w or the Diamond D1 subs? what would people recommend? i know diamonds are suppose to be excellent but i don't think i have herd them b4, so dunno what to judge, and alpines sound really good as iv heard them b4, can anyone help me out?

depends on the enclosure, power there running off and what your looking for in a sub personally i wouldn't have alpine subs and i would only have diamond if your after sq

oh ok, i tort alpines are good? but you iv got a alpine 700w amp, i want summink wid a nice bass rather then just really loud bass like vibe & jbl. what would people recommend?

the type of bass you get is more from the enclosure design alpine headunits are awesome the rest is ok i'm assuming thats 700w peak not rms ? peak figures mean nothing rms figures are the only ones worth going off

depends what you want out of the system and what space you have available for the enclosure

I'm gona b using a standard 12" square sealed box, the back of it is in an angle.

dls ultimate amps are the best mate - i had two A5 amps (3 chann each, one for each side of the car) they are the best bar none - the only amps to get near them are the diamond stuff.

ahh ok ill look into that, what about the diamond d1 subs? or are the alpines better?

i had two dls 12" to start with - then jl audio w7 13" - if u want the best - then buy a diamond audio d6 or jl audio w7, my w7 13" was better than my two dls 12" - u get what you pay for - trust me - if u buy a dls a5 (the big three) and really high quality components for the front and say a w7 sub you will never get a better system - there is a dls a5 on ebay just now starting bid £230 - i paid £800 each for my amps (when they first came out)- forget alpine and kenwood - they should stick to making headunits - apart from the alpine F1 status stuff.

also buy the BEST cables and connectors you can afford - most of mine was phoenix gold

anyway if your running in a prefab box you may as well just get a cheap sub as it's never gonna perform well without a speciaifc enclosre designed for it

as for the w7 i'd rather run an re xxx v3 simaler but the xxx is an awesome sub niether of them are amazing sq subs though

as for cables the 2 best makers easily available in this country are xscorpian and stinger there are some high end sq cable suppliers but again theres no point unless your gonna do everything right you could sppend hundreds on all the kit and pout it in a prefab box and it'll be pants

1.5 cuft sealed if that includes sub displacement you just make a box with that internal volume and vut a hole to mount the sub in

i prefer ported boxes myself but you'll need about 2.5cuf for one of them

but again it all depends on the install are you going to design a box specificaly for the sub you get ? as that is the key to the install. and also depends what you want out of it personally i love low and loud tuned installs

yes i agree, low and loud! you planning to make a box, I'm not quite sure how to make a Sealed - 1.5 cubic foot box?! would anyone know how?

I think you also need to mention what type of music you play and what source it is coming from. if your system is a budget one then you may as well go for the budget sub as your entire audio is only as good as its weakest point.

In my opinion a lot of products carry certain reputations, but in reality its what you find appealing that will be whats important. I own a JL Audio 12w7 but previous to that I had an Alumapro 12" sub. hardly many people know about that brand here i the UK and when they compare my 2 set ups, people are shocked at how good the Alumapro is. So the key thing is not to really worry about brand too much.

Look at your budget, look and think about what you want and be honest with yourself, are you the kind of person who can really tell the difference or do you just want loads of noise out of your boot?

i tort that u get better lower when its sealed? and louder when its ported?

So what do people think is a decent headunit? u mean ones that are like £300 ish? most of then tend to have the same features? can anyone help out?

mbh69 i would say that is a very general rule of thumb.. ported will play lower and louder around the octave it is ported to and/or the vehicles resonant frequency.. if you have not designed your box well then the sealed will be better in both respects...

a sealed box has an "air spring" inside it so it needs more power to compress all of the air in it as the sub starts to play notes lower and lower. so in theory it is very tight sounding, and fairly flat in response.

a ported box has the "air spring" element in it too, until the notes you play start going a fair bit below the frequency you have ported your box to, after that, the box becomes unloaded and there is not as much air in the box to cushion the sub from bottoming out.. as a result its low end can become a bit off...

if you tune it to 33Hz then you will get lots of low bass (and excite the ladies as its their resonant frequency in the genital area) but how much music do you listen to with notes at that frequency? not much...

so again you makes your choices and gets you some results!

my personal view is I like the musicality of selaed boxes for everyday use...

my systems peaks at 30hz the crossover is set to 65hz top end and 20hz bottom end it plays very flat

the box design is important but design it well and it will give you everything you want and more :)

alot of people are playing with bandpass designs at the moment and there working well but take alot of trial and error to design, i still think ported is the best all round with a little work designing it well :)
