trying to go more standard coz i know someday i may have to claim on insurance.

what i want to know is, steel wheels from another car (mk2 golf gti), putting these on, would i nessesarily need to declare them as a mod?

i was told, aparantly... it depends on what size the standard steels should be, and what size the steels your puting on are.

say standard are 13, and you want to put 15inch steels, you should be telling them.

not sure if this is true or not though...

standard mk3 steels are 13" bike tires and going for 5.5 14".

might have to give them a ring with the good old "what if" question

steel wheels are'nt a mod in the eye's of an insurance company

& going 1" bigger than the largest standard wheels won't bother the insurance company either

if i was you.....i'd stick the 14's on & not even tell them........don't give them the chance to charge you more ££££

i would agree. most insurers would look at the steels and know no different. But, to be fair, even if you declare them you probly wont pay that much more, i declare my alloys (pretty much the only mod at the moment) and i only pay about a tenner a year more.

i tryed telling my insurance company about my weller steel wheels..

after several phone calls and efforts every reply was alloys are an optinal.... etc..

i confirmed they where not at all alloy and had a few arguments with a few people... they really are just pen pushers with no ideas about cars..

aslong as they arnt stupidly wide like my (8x13 wellers on a mk2) stuck out lots..

then the police or your insurance will not even notice the difference..

in my opinion dont bother phoning.. cost me £15 quid in credit an hour of my time just to argue about alloys which i didnt even have..
