Haha, ok basicaly i work for VW and i want to leave, but I'm sure when i first started 3 and a bit years ago as an apprentice and I'm sure they said i had to do my 3 year qualification (paid for by them) and then stay for a year to re-pay it, but i want to leave now, on april the 4th this year i signed a new contract after i qualified and it says i have to give them 1 month notice, thats it, but i want to know if i left will i have to pay??? thanks in advance!

I've never heard of that before, i do know though u do have to give a 1 month notice to leave only if you are full time tho !

u not got a local solictors to u ?

I've heard of this before, its a "lock in" sort of contract, similar to the army whereas if you leave early then you pay so much as they have invested in you and not got any benefit from it. However, if you have signed a new contract which in theory should supercede any previous contracts then 1 months notice it is, right? But I'm a Car Salesman not a Solicitor!

jus do what i done nice person off the manager and then there happy to let you go

Are you getting deductions in your pay to 'Pay Back' the qualification at all? Or was it more of a 'we want to get our monies worth out of you'

If its the latter in my experience you may be ok plus the fact you signed a new contract of employment. Have a word with your HR department

Incidently are you at Beadles?

My local Beadles in Bromley never get anything I order right takes an age to get anything in and always say "it's coming from our Dartford branch or Germany"

Off topic a bit but surely they're not all like that are they? :?

p.s. It would say in your initial contract in terms of pay back terms such as if you leave before the end of the 'payback' period they would be able to recoup the money on a pro-rata basis from you. It is similar to if you get a Golden sign on lump sum when you start a new job.

Also if you want to leave during the 1month noticary period they may give you 'gardening leave' where you are still paid for the month but not allowed to come into work.

Lol yeah I'm at beadles dartford! well everything i orders spot on, but thats because my mate works in the parts department!, if you want anything let me know!, back on topic, I'm not being deducted money, but i think its a 'if you leave you pay' sort of thing, and i dont want to leave if i then have to foot a large bill, amd i dont want to ask my manager because hes a tw*t , and if he knows i want to leave he may lie to keep me or make my life difficult until i can leave?

On the last contract I had I got a lump sum as a sign on bonus and the contract said that if I gave notice within the first year they would be within their rights to recoup the money direct from my bank account (they would have these details as this is where they pay my salary into).

I remember a friend got sponsored for his university course on the proviso he would work for the company on graduation for a year at least. This is similar to your situation as they paid for his qualification. If he didn't work for the company he would have to repay all that they sponsored him for.

I would go back and check your old apprenticeship contract and your new contract and look for any stipulations similar to what I've mentioned.

p.s. Did you fit your GTi brakes noticed your thread on UK-Polos also by any chance do you know anyone who can fit and hook up a full Gti rear axle on a 6n? I'm not good at mechanics just electrics. My usual mechanic has gone travelling. :(

shag one of the birds there then fuck her off some way or anothe rby not texting her or something then it will be awkward. she will see your manager and might suggest you leave! job done!

good luck.

does the place have a hr manager or hr staff? you should be able to go and ask them what your terms, contract and notice period are. if they know their job, the whole thing is confidential so your manager wont know anything about it.

done that where i used to work, went and just asked what my notice period was... nohing else. Lass in hr found out and told me, and that was the end of it. about 2 months later i handed my notice in- my boss didnt even know i had been looking for a job never mind that i had enquired about my notice period- tidy!

You need to check out your apprenticeship contract and your new contract. Will tell you what sort of notice you have to give and also if you have to pay your employes any money back.

I am tied in until September at my job. If I quit I need to pay back the courses they have paid for me!!!

Good Luck!

get yourself fired!

my old job tried screwing me over to pay for my apprentice as i left after a couple of months, but they didnt know i didnt sign any contracts, and i left a few days earlier than i should of, got letters through saying thy will take it further blah blah blah, i said i hadnt signed my contract and that was the last i heard from them.

surely if your new contract doesnt state anything about paying back apprenticeship then signing that will make your old contract useless?

It's pretty simple really. Ask to see the contract and read the terms. The only problem is that he'll ask why you want see it which will be a bit awkward :-)

I have a contract like this at my work. If I was to leave within a year of taking my exam studies then I would have to pay for the course expenses and exams.
