1989 VW Polo Saloon C 1.05 (modified)

Featured Replies

I want to start earning NCB and that means my own policy, and that means the insurance company starts taking notice of the modifications :-[ I've put a hell of a lot of time and effort into this car, and so would rather it went as a whole with all the parts together.

Basic specification:

VW Polo Saloon C 1.05.

Unknown mileage (around 100k though).

Standard engine-wise

Tornado red/pink

11months T&T

Modifications:

Chequered boot lid

Coupe S clocks

Coupe S steering wheel

Coupe S grille (twin headlamp)

Front/rear coilovers*

13x7 front and 13x8 rear banded steels

175/50 bf goodrich tyres (6-7mm each)

Matt black centre caps

Exhaust centre box removed (stops it grounding)

Red/black bucket seats

Front lower brace

Front/rear speakers

Small amplifier

Unfortunately no headunit, but adaptor to plug into ipod etc.

The front coilovers were built by myself using a rally design kit and I lowered the steering arms 2.5" on the struts to keep the correct steering arm angle. This is the ultimate way to lower a Polo really! The springs are 6" 250lb items and are pretty much perfect, but could be changed for different ones for £40 a pair. The rear coilovers are TA Technix mk1 golf ones which are pretty hard, but does mean the rears don't rub at all!

The banded steels were done by proffesionally by JamesP on here and are all balanced up perfectly, although one rear does leak slightly (might be the bead or a slight leak in the wheel.... easily sorted either way!). They are painted with satin black hammerite which could do with being touched up. They are the hardest wheels I've seen fitted to a Polo!

Okay, description. Lets start with the bad bits. This is a 20 year old car and as such has all the little dings and rust patches you would expect. It is by no means perfect, but is very respectable and polishes up nicely (as the photos show). It has at some point been rear ended, which means the bumper is *slightly* bent if you look closely, and the paint on the rear panel fades quicker then the rest of the car. Pretty much un-noticeable unless you look closely. The bonnet has very shallow dent which could probably be pushed out, but again is pretty much invisible to anyone but the most pedantic owner (ie me). The drivers side wing is slightly creased but I have a straight replacement which needs spraying and fitting :)

The front panel has been hastily painted matt black, could probably do with being either stripped, treated and repsrayed or replaced pretty soon. A front panel is £15-20, and it's a case of drilling out the spot welds and a new one can be bolted on.

Good bits! It runs beautifully, starts first time every time, has the original autochoke pierburg carb which is functioning perfectly. It has had a new radiator, carb base plate, wheel bearings, top mounts, brake discs and pads and plently of other things within the last 7-8000 miles. It comes with a PhilJ lowering kit (70/60), a set of mk4 polo wheels and 175/65 tyres, a straight drivers side wing, a standard grille, 2 coupe S steels (for future banding....),a coupe S spare with 165/65 tyre and coupe S rear seats with a matching red and black stripe (ready for adaption).

It's such a great little car, surprisingly nippy for a 1.05 and will return 40+ mpg all the time. Plus it looks the absolute business :)

Pictures say it all really.

I realise I'm never going to get back what I've spent on it, so I'm looking for:

£975

Would consider a P/X with a good condition standard 205 1.1/1.4 with tax/MOT.

I might be tempted to sell seperately later on, for now I'd rather keep it all together.

They're unknown really! Originally for a mini I believe, and they're surprisingly comfortable

would you sell with out the banded steels? if so best price, and why dont you know the mileage?

thanks,

Saw this when i was at work last sunday (Halfords carpark - Newbury) atleast i think it was this one, looks even better in flesh , good luck with the sale.

thanks,

I would probably sell it without the banded steels for £850 or so, but it can't go until my 205s been through it's MOT (hopefully a couple of weeks max).

I don't know the mileage because the original clocks had stopped working before I bought it, and I replaced them with Coupe S ones with a rev counter that currently read 70000 or so.

Not for sale, but I might be putting the coilies, banded steels and seats up for sale in exchange for standard items at some point.

Iff you can get in contact with myself i would quite happily purchase the coilies form yourself and provide you with standard suspension in good condition with some 40mm or standard springs .

Iff you could let me know asap as i will be ordering a suspension kit mid to end of next month iff unable to get these .

Thanks alot mate you are a legand .

I need that stance !

When you say you modified soem of the other suspension bits ? In what way mate ? WOuld it be possible to do a straight swap with all the standard bits on my car bear in mind the car will go through a MOT in a cpl of weeks and everything will be in excallent working order ..

Otherwise it would be good to find out how you modified the bits and pieces as i could carry out the work myself .

Thanks alot ..

Okay, shes up for sale as I have found a 205 I really want!

£650 without banded steels or rear coilies. Would benefit from a new passenger side CV or whole driveshaft (£20 and quite a simple job).

£950 for everything.

Would you sell the banded steels seperatly?

If the car goes without them then yes.

Alternatively, make me an offer I cant refuse!

Oh and Offers including removal of the car by the end of the week will be thoroughly considered.
