Want to remove my rear wiper and replace it with a gromit

Iv just spent AGES searching for threads where people have explained how do it, BUT CANT FIND ANY!

take the rear cover off you boot lid inside n u will see how easy it is.. screw driver to take panel off n ajustable spanner to undo bolts that hold wiper on from outside.. bout 3 bolts that hold motor on. bend you pipe in half n cable tie so u dont fill you boot with water!! make sure u dont push wiper stalk as if water cant come out it will pop the pipe off somewhere else with the pressure!!

hope this makes sense.. if not take a look n it will!!! 5min job trust me.

david.

a was look how to do this but cant find iot anywear wher ecan u get gromit form ?

halfords...

jhalfords can you how much !

how much for these gromits then boyos i might pop over soon?

just rang them and they reckon they dont do them

well thats bullshit becuase thats were VW Technik got his from

they are a couple of quid for an assorted set, a good aid for size i found was.. open your car door (on a mk4) pull out the small rubber bung from the end of the dash and that bug is a tad too small.. so take that into halfords compare it to the sizes you buy and you need one a few mm up... SORTED

if you are using the std plastic wiper surround you will need another bung for that but u can take the plastic in see what fits and geta 5 finger discount if your quick  (not that I'm reccomending that or that i would ever do that :D) i didnt need oen fo rht eplastci as i smoothed my plate and silicined it back on.. jobs a goodun loks great too, besta luck everyone

i shoudl really do a how to on it  woudl that be of any use to anyone as i can go do one if it will be of benefit?

tried doing mine but dont know how to actually take the wiper of. do you have to take the motor of??

also the small bungs you get from halfords, there called blank grommets or ariel grommets.

Do you know the exact size the grommet has to be??

Right

So far I have remod the motor, removed the wiper and surrounding bolts, and put gromit in the piece of plastic

However I'm not sure how to attach the semi circle shaped plastic onto the glass...

Do I use glue?

Also where can I buy this wiper blank thats smooth and uses no gromit?

  • 3 weeks later...
