I've seen it before Tav, but its a fantastic video nontheless.

Its footage like this that is the reason that I'm an old Ford lover myself. Not only does that mk2 Escort look the bollocks, but the sound of that engine and the attitude on the road it has is unsurpassable IMO.

Mckinley is an awsome driver without a doubt. The control he has in sliding the car about is unbelievable. Love the way he reverse flicks the car into oversteer upon entry to those corners!

MK2 Escorts and tarmac events are one of the best combinations of motorsport going IMO. Makes F1 look like a schoolgirl's outing.

its footage like that that puts all these ''if you had 6k what vw would you buy'' threads into perspective really, why would any body buy a vw when you could have some thing like that. mk2 escorts are one of the coolest oldskool cars about, imo tho its all about the x-pack kitted customs

Ah, so Andy Harris finally sold it then did he? The Harris family are legends round my way.

That Escort was an absolutely fucking awsome car. Its even more impressive that his car managed wheelies off the line when you see the ballast it had to shift. Andy Harris is fucking huge! He must weigh at least 20 stone, he's a bleedin' man mounting - gotta be at least 6'4" and built like a brick shit house! Even at his age (mid 50's), you wouldn't want to spill his pint in the pub!

However, the regular 11 second 1/4 mile times weren't due to some 500bhp Cosworth turbo engine. The HPE built 2.2 pinto on twin 50's produces 234 bhp, plenty of torque and a fantastic soundtrack. Who needs a turbo or supercharger to be quick?

I have seen him and he isnt small but the torque that engine chucks out is ludicrous! the fact the car rears and twitches through second and a bit through third is honour to their great work with engines, let alone the many people who want to be able to run sunstrips with H.P.E. on them!

That is one vid of his escort, i wish i had managed to keep the camera still when i saw it at santa pod at classic ford. That thing launched like no escort has ever launched! that one in the vid is nothing compared to the distance and chassis twist it got when i saw it!

Warrior head? They are like rocking horse poo!

Like the post on the link says, these heads are very sought after as they are a period head which will pass scrutineering on historic rallies! Saw one go on eBay for 10 grand if I recall correctly.

Showing my age now, but I can remember when the Warrior head was introduced!

Its a twin cam 8 valve head that had the ability to run very wild profile camshafts without wiping them out every five minutes as with the normal Pinto head. The poor cam spray bar lubrication was done away with too.

They were never a big seller because the option of 16valve heads weren't far away. Still a big improvement over the Pinto head though.

haha, considering the cars you remeber are now historics! (joke) theres a bloke that runs one in a historic spec mk 2 in a a neighbouring motor club, defo has a unique sound, and is 100 times better than the horrid 8v pintos, (silly american engines) still one of the best engines i saw was a couple of mk1s running 1800 (i think) BDA's with the cosworth 16v heads!

However, its a bit harsh saying that Pintos are horrid! Yeah, the American 2.3 version was a shitter, even in turbo form but the 2.0 litre UK spec. engines were pretty good in their time. A bit heavy and quite tall with poorly designed head ports they weren't the last word in design - but this was 1970!

Also remember, its basically a "horrid Pinto" that Andy Harris uses in that Escort to run 11 sec. quarters. No nitrous, turbo, supercharger or even mapped EFI here - just good old fashioned tuning.

is that harris tuning? sorry to say pintos are horrid, I'm just into my pe cross flows I'm a silly bugger!

But when you think about it, the fact you could fit a twin cam head and the fact the block is big enough to bore to around 2.4 litres equals amazing power and torque so i better withdraw my statement.

As well as this, the pinto engine was probbly one of the most robust engins ford made to date at the time due to its robustness.
