my mrs's clutch was playing up and this is what I found

part of the reason why when you read "careful lady owner" in used car listings is never a strong selling point in my book

...other reasons include:

Speedbumps taken at 35 mph

oil/coolant levels never checked.. "I didnt know how to open the bonnet"

tyre pressures?... "how do put air in tyres?"

A lady friend of mine just got a new car 2 weeks ago and she took it over to mine to give it a quick once over see what I thought.

I asked her, did you check the oil levels and coolant levels and just general under bonnet tidyness? her reply "I couldnt find the bonnet lever so i left it"

OK, your tyres on the front look a bit low want to go to the petrol station and put air in? Her reply "how much will that cost me?" I was on the deck laughing for some time at this reply!

Mate of mine works in shell, and some woman asked him if he could fill her tires up as she didn't know how.....she gave him £5 for it as well..

People like that shouldn't be allowed cars!!

It's quite scary really to think we share the roads with these sort of numptys... and if that aint bad enough women get cheaper car insurance too!?

The only bad thing about her stupidity towards cars is the fact the garage she got it from are taking her for a complete mug.

On my inspection of the car I found it needs new discs and possibly pads all round as the front discs are scored and grooved pretty deep and are just worth the scrappy and the backs arent much better.

She took it back to the garage as she has a 3 month warranty on the car and they said they would have a look. They handed the car back about 5 minutes later and said "Its fine the pads just need a clean"

Now I dunno about anyone on here but I've never heard of cleaning brake pads!

I have told her to go back and insist they change the discs as its a matter of safety!

But I'm sure they will find another way of doing nothing and telling her a load of bull!!

Hey i started out like all these women is your stories... luckily i learnt the basics of looking after a car after some time, although i still have my own mechanic, and last time i was was under my bonnet i wasnt strong enough to take off the cap on the water lol. I got a guy doing my skirting boards to take it off lol.

Hahaha, id trust my mum under the bonnet before i let my dad near it. Yes he can wash and polish brilliantly and change lightbulbs but his engine bay expertise have a bit to be desired.

My mum AND dad are equally numpty though. When I was still living at home, I did a fluids check on one of their cars because I was doing the same on mine - I took the dipstick out on mum's car and looked at the black treacle on the end of the stick - turned to my dad and said "when's the last time this car had an oil change??????" - he said "ooh, err, maybe it's about due for a service, then."
