A long time in the making, this weekend was go-time for a ported and polished rebuilt cylinder head, PSD/Newman 268 camshaft (which arrived the evening before we were gonna do the work!), and the Twin Weber DCOE 40's. Not much else to report, only backache.

It was for the most part a great experience and mates made it all the more bearable. Scott (EeekiE) helped out all day on saturday, Rob (flat-eric) dropped by too and got stuck in even though he was going to be beaten by the missus for getting dirty, a couple other mates showed their faces and helped to varying degrees. The best thing about this weekend was the way people I knew came by to help and cared to poke their nose in and give me a hand - I couldn't do it on my own.

No rampipes or throttle cables yet - The brake line gets in the way of cylinder 1 bigtime, and the throttle cables will require the pedal arm to be bent a bit to clear the pedal box with the block I'm putting on. It's twin cable, so the pedal will be quite hard but razor-sharp when connected.

As for the rampipes....well...I don't really know to be honest. I need rampipes without exception - the brake line to blame is for one of the rear drums, so I'll have to think of something. I need shorter rampipes but the pipe would get in the way regardless.

But all in all, a big fat YEAH-UH for me. Cheers for the cool comments, now I need to book a rolling road setup aswell as a chiropracter.

Looks and sounds fantastic :)

Can't wait to get mine on, can I ask where you got all your unions and fittings? and what fuel pump/fpr your using?

B)

Sweet. What your needing is a banjo type affair where that solid brake line goes into the master cylinder.

I'm using a red top facet pump which you can see on the driverside bay wing, and nearly all the unions, fittings and linkages can be bought from fastroadcars on ebay (very good shop, the bloke is 100% decent and is open to questions about carbs in general)

made a bit more progress than i thought you would mate! glad i could help just shame i cudnt stay to long "under the thumb" but hey on a lighter not i sold my spare mgf exhaust for £26 and bought a mini moto for £40 so its only cost me £14!!! a a a a a get the fook in there!!! lol.

all i can say is bring on le man dude! "ROAD TRIP"

rob.

amazing stuff :)

Looking good, You'll definitely have a lot of fun with this setup. I had the same problem with my brake pipe/ram pipes, I re-made the brake pipe with braided and connected with a banjo connection. A slight modification to the pipe and it worked fine... :-D

Cheers people!

I've already hit the first woe to come. Petrol is slowly dripping from the barrel on cylinder 1, it's been putting petrol on the drive all night. It's leaking past the aux venturi and dripping out of the barrel. Why the hell would it do this?

Gah!

WOW simmo taht is sexy! looks great against the black bay

hahaha petrol dripping sounds like my predicament today, nothing like the smell of gasoline in the morning to wake you up

Played with the venturi a bit and sorted it, was probably due to high fuel pressure which is now fixed.

if you mean ........(2x40)+268+(PXP) =348+P2

or

2x(40+268)+(PxP)=616+P2

or

2x((40+268)+(PxP))=616+2P2

lol i was bored  it sounds phat man ! 8-)

Makes my current dtmr webber conversion look (and sound) like a lawnmower but hey I had a wha hey  it works feeling today when it fired up for the 1st time.

Oh and Simmo's square was the reason I got into polos when I had my mk2 polo c I saw the potential in a square when I saw it on Matey Matey site.

you must be like a kid at christmas, bouncing off the walls. i would be.

hate to sound like a scavenger but is the GK manifold going to be on the market any time soon? my dmtl is crying out for one.

mine hasnt fired up yet, the carbs spat and popped at me a lil bit but i think the timing may be out on the car so will check everythings at TDC. my mates dropping off a balancer tonight and I've got another fuel pressure gauge in the post because the last one was leaking.

fuel pressure was only at 2psi then so probably not enough to fire life into the carbs plus i ould do with gettin some fresh fuel in there.

when you booked in to the rollers?

I still need to fit stainless 4-branch and a matching system before taking it to the RR.

You say your gauge was leaking - did you use PTFE tape? Essential for any threads which are gonna essentially stop fuel leaking by themselves (stuff without gaskets.

ha ha told you i'd get a pic! lol

whats yoonz doinz?

"mmmmmmmmmmm sausage"

Photo0082.jpg

the gauge was leaking from where the gauge meets the union not where it screws into the adaptor.

new one should be here tomorrow and i shall be using some ptfe now ;) got some in the toolbox anyway used it for pikeying many a thread so will bust it out

Almost all the problems have been worked around and the car is now roadgoing.

And HO-lee CRAP is it running! Power has took a BIG hike and it's great to drive overall. Low throttle's a bit funny but it's more than likely down to a rich/lean idle mixture which can be sorted.

Apparently part-throttle can be heard a good kilometre away!
